Associate Pastor

**I. Purpose and Ministry Focus**

The Associate Pastor will have a passion for Jesus Christ and ministry that advances the accomplishments of the Church’s Mission and Vision. The expectation of the Associate Pastor is to directly lead two major Ministry areas and indirectly oversee a group of Ministries. The Associate Pastor will be directly responsible for the oversight of the Youth Ministry (Junior High, Senior High and Young Adults), focusing on discipleship and evangelism within the Church, the community, and beyond. The Associate Pastor will also be directly responsible for the oversight of one other key ministry area as determined in discussion with the Senior Pastor and Elder Board. The Associate Pastor will indirectly give oversight to the Discipleship and Evangelism Ministries. The Associate Pastor will assist the Senior Pastor in Church duties. **II. Specific Ministry Responsibilities**

The Associate Pastor will provide visionary leadership to all areas of the Youth Ministry, creating an environment where our youth begin and continue a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ. As needed, he will recruit and develop volunteer Youth Ministry Leaders and will ensure a safe and secure environment for the Youth Ministry participants. The Associate Pastor will plan outreach activities, hold weekly social/bible study/prayer meetings, encourage participation in Church services, disciple and mentor the Youth and Young adults. He will also grow relationships with the parents/guardians of these groups and serve as a resource person, helping them to promote the spiritual growth of their youth. He will also be involved in leading the Summer Internship Program (SIP).

As the direct overseer of one other ministry area, the Associate Pastor will again provide visionary leadership to this area, developing any further activities or direction that allows for the building up of this ministry area and the Church.

Giving indirect oversight to the Discipleship and Evangelism Ministries, the Associate Pastor will recruit, develop, resource, encourage, and work with the volunteer Ministry Leaders who give direct oversight to these Ministries.

**III. Other Responsibilities**:
The Associate Pastor will assist in the carrying out of special projects or events that will help build up the Church and realize its Vision. He will also provide home or hospital visitations as required, take part in the Morning Worship Services of the Church, bring a minimum of 5 messages throughout the year and perform other activities as directed by the Senior Pastor. The Associate Pastor will participate in staff meetings and events. He will also attend Ministry Team meetings and will recommend and maintain the approved annual budget for the areas of ministry that he directly oversees. The Associate Pastor will attend the Elder Board meetings after a period of six months to a year to give him time to learn the church culture. The Associate Pastor will attend Church business meetings and may be expected to make presentations/lead items of business as directed by the Chairman of the Board through the Senior Pastor. The Associate Pastor will perform other reasonable Pastoral duties as directed by the Senior Pastor.

The Associate Pastor will oversee our website and social outlets in tandem with the Senior Pastor. This will ensure off information is up to date and that ministries are being promoted and information is available.

**IV. Qualifications**
- General Character_

The Associate Pastor will meet the spiritual and character qualifications of an elder outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9 and exhibit the fruit of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22. The Associate Pastor will lead a Christ-centred, biblically based yet grace-filled lifestyle that is above reproach. Where applicable, he will strive to have a healthy marriage and family life.
- Gifting/Abilities_

The Associate Pastor will be a mature leader, confident and secure in himself. He will be a self-motivated individual who works effectively within a ministry team. He will demonstrate a teachable spirit, be reliable in fulfilling his tasks, and exhibit a godly balance of work, home life, and leisure. The Associate Pastor will be able to lead in a variety of ministries such as individual, small groups, large groups and in such a way that Jesus Christ and His gospel are central. While seeking mainly to shepherd people, the Associate Pastor will have the skill set and ability to effectively manage the various administrative tasks associated with the position; ability in music and the arts would be of benefit for this position.
