Compensation Range

Job Summary
The Energy Conservation Specialist is responsible for managing and further developing UBC’s Utility and Building Data Analytics Platform (the software is called Skyspark by SkyFoundry) for all Building Management System trends on campus.
The Data Analytics Platform (Skyspark) enables the automated data capture of from UBC’s Building Management System (BMS) trend logs. It can quickly visualize large datasets that allow UBC Facilities team to troubleshoot and optimize building systems. Skyspark uses the axon programming language. The position is dedicated to programming, developing, and writing functions within the platform to detect trends which will identify energy conservation opportunities, enable better Measurement & Verification (M&V) of existing projects, deploy fault detection for system maintenance, as well as write functions to clean data and manage duplicate points. The Energy Conservation specialist also supports Campus as Living Laboratory initiatives by enabling data sharing processes and by providing expertise on topics related to smart buildings and data science.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Senior Energy Conservation Manager (ECM), has direct contact with Building Operation Staff, the Sustainability Office, Campus and Community Planning (C&CP), members of the faculty, students, external; clients, regulators, municipal, provincial and federal agencies, as well as members of other institutions similar to UBC. Holds and hosts meetings with other Facilities personnel, works with consultants to contribute to project scope develop.
Work Performed- Leads continuous Skyspark deployment and maintenance: ensuring all BACnet-enabled buildings are integrated with UBC's SkySpark instance; writing scripts and updating program code to sort and tag data points; writing programs to remove duplicate points, finding data errors and interpolate missing data; monitoring and maintaining the Skyspark database; ensures Skyspark database follows industry metadata tagging standards (Haystack).- Manages automated data acquisition and data synchronization processes within the Skyspark platform.- Programs and deploys rules and develops custom views in Skyspark to enable engineers and technicians to find deep energy savings; working on enabling other projects through skyspark (including, but not limited to, predictive maintenance programs for building mechanical equipment, advanced commissioning/recommissioning).- Helps ensure the successful implementation of the goals set with the Utility Partner’s project plan.- Enables energy conservation through analysis of building control system and its functionality, identifies and recommends opportunities for energy conservation, assisting in custom energy conservation project identification.- Coordinates with BMS team to ensure good communication between Skyspark and BMS systems.- Collects energy consumption data from utilities and benchmarks energy performance of UBC core buildings.- Supports UBC Continuous Optimization program development through deployment of fault detection rules on BMS data.- Monitor, track, and verify energy savings from academic buildings undergoing energy retrofits as part of the Continuous Optimization Program (COp). Reconcile completed C.Op measures.- Liaise with the COp implementation team, carry out walk-through inspections of COp measures and provide regular status reports to the ECM.- Manages the overall integration of UBC’s district energy system (Factory Talk) with Skyspark.- Maintains appropriate up-to-date knowledge of current information technology techniques and tools.- Coordinates access to the database for UBC Research and designs data sharing methods and processes.- Reviews the work of third-party
