**Position Summary**:
The position supports the WATCH Project Lead and community-based research in pilot communities and strengthen capacities in pilot communities for monitoring harmful phytoplankton, the environmental variables that contribute to harmful algal blooms, and other climate-related environmental changes. The position also supports project expansion into new communities and into critical new areas such as increasing capacity to test for water and shellfish tissue toxins. The position helps bridge the WATCH project with similar programs in Alaska and Washington State. Additionally, the position supports project management (e.g., organizing events and meetings); project administration (e.g., tracking expenditures, ordering equipment), and evaluation (e.g., tracking indicators, reporting to funders).

**As a health and wellness organization, the First Nations Health Authority has aligned with the Provincial Public Health Order released on October 14, 2021. We have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all employees at First Nations Health Authority. This policy requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If selected for employment, you will be required to provide proof of vaccination by providing a copy of your BC Vaccination Card Passport with the QR code.**

**Responsibilities**:

- Literature reviews and in-community research to better understand exposures, sensitivities, and adaptive capacities as they pertain to the health and well-being of communities and their members, the health of seafood species, and the marine environment.
- Conducts entrance and exit surveys with team members.
- Develops a suite of knowledge exchange products, such as infographics, digital stories, social media posts, newsletters, developmental evaluation documents, and peer-reviewed publications.
- Assesses the needs, priorities, capacities, and readiness of coastal First Nation communities to participate in WATCH monitoring.
- Ordering and distributing equipment to WATCH communities for monitoring harmful algae and associated environmental parameters.
- Developing training/learning materials in online, in-person and hybrid formats for adults, youth, and children.
- Examines the feasibility of enhancing laboratory capacity for testing biotoxins in the water column and shellfish tissue.
- General project management and administration.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:
**Education & Experience**
- University Degree in related field.
- Experience in research in the discipline of biology, health/environmental, or social science preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience.
- Experience working in First Nations Communities preferred.
