**Job Summary**
***The Museum Science and Technology Educational Program Instructor will work within the Programming Department and will be responsible for the planning, supervision, and delivery of exploration-based, hands-on history and science education programs for children ranging from 4 to 13 years of age.

**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Researches, develops and implements/delivers hands-on innovative and curriculum based science and technology programs for the museum’s summer camps incorporating the museum’s collections, three key themes and studio spaces.
- Assists with the development of new curriculum based science and technology education programming and the updating/revamping of current programs.
- Serves as an ambassador for the Corporation of the City of Markham, liaising with other departments/outside groups and resolving any issues with the support of the Museum Summer Camp Director. Displays a heightened sense of customer service.
- Work with the Museum Summer Camp Director to train camp staff to be able to deliver general science and technology programming in a safe and fun manner.
- Participates in all required training sessions and delivers program content as directed.
- Provides regular updates and feedback to the Museum Program Coordinator.
- Oversee the science and technology supplies and budget for activities, ensuring that all necessary supplies and equipment are ordered and received in accordance with City policies.
- Assists in the preparation of programming materials as needed.
- Completes all program related forms as required and reports all incidents promptly to the Program Coordinator.
- Provide direction to volunteers and staff assisting with program delivery.
- Assists in ensuring a safe environment for all participants and reports any potential hazards to the Museum Summer Camp Director and/or the Program Coordinator.
- Completes a full report at the end of the summer including feedback and recommendations for future programming to the Museum Program Coordinator.
- Other duties as required.

**Requirements**:

- Pursuing or completed a post-secondary education in Education, Engineering, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences and or another relevant degree.
- Previous experience presenting programming to schools and public audiences; as a historic interpreter or a guide at a historic site or animator at a Science Center, etc.
- Knowledge of interpretive and educational practices are an asset.
- Minimum age of 16 years old at the start of employment
- Up-to-date Standard First Aid with CPR ‘C’ and High Five - PHCD are required.
- A new Vulnerable Sector Screen form is required.
- G Drivers License is an asset.
- Knowledge of Ontario Curriculum is an asset.
- Strong verbal/written communication skills, customer service skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of Museum patrons in a courteous and efficient manner;
- Strong leadership, program planning, instructing and organizational skills;
- Able to learn and teach a range of activities from a traditional skill such as blacksmithing, weaving and printing to environmental science is an asset;
- Enjoys meeting and talking with people of all ages;
- Enjoys sharing knowledge and skill with others;
- A second language an asset, particularly French.
