**About us**:
Argus Residence is an award winning charity that believes all people deserve to have a place to call home and opportunities to thrive. We provide homeless prevention and shelter diversion services through our FirstConnect phone services to single adults facing the possibility of homelessness. Argus also provides job employment training for youth facing barriers to employment and diagnosed disabilities.

FirstConnect provides homelessness prevention and shelter diversion services to all individuals 18+ in Waterloo Region who are experiencing or at-risk of experiencing homelessness. We operate as a 24/7 phone service to support individuals with finding safe alternatives to emergency shelter. We support with system and service navigation, advocacy, family reunification and mediation, and community connections and referrals.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Working with callers through phone conversations, developing solutions for those facing barriers in the area of homelessness;
- Knowledge of the resources in the Region of Waterloo for individuals, youth and single adults who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, living in poverty, or living with mental health or addiction issues;
- Provide emergency shelter client support, intakes and referrals;
- Work in team capacity to ensure services and supports wrap around each individual;
- Perform light housekeeping duties and health and safety procedures.

**Qualifications**:

- Related Post Secondary Education (social services, social work, community work, mental health, or other relevant discipline);
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, and/or working in social services;
- Experience supporting individuals search for and obtain housing and/or experiencing with preventing someone’s homelessness;
- Extensive knowledge of community service organizations, resources and government assistance programs to support with service navigation;
- Thorough understanding of barriers existing for individuals experiencing homelessness and marginalized individuals;
- Understanding of trauma informed approach, harm reduction approaches, and person-centered approach;
- Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills;
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a small team;
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check is required;
- Certifications: First Aid/CPR.

**Scheduled Shifts**:Saturdays and Sundays 8am-4pm.

**Shift rates**: Starting rate is $26.53 per hour
