Sistering’s programs include a low-barrier 24/7 Drop In, Housing and Case Support, Harm Reduction, Peer Outreach, On the Path to Employment and Spun Studio social enterprise, and individual and systemic advocacy.

Sistering operates on a trauma-informed and relationship-based model and our harm reduction philosophy is a core element of all the work we do: we are here to respond to participants’ needs, where they are at, in the moment, to support participants to learn how to reduce harm and/or increase safety. In addition, we recognize that their lives have meaning and value.

Reporting to the Program Supervisor, the Food Access Worker plays a key role in preparing nutritious, culturally diverse meals for approximately 300+ people daily, managing kitchen resources, and maintaining food safety standards, while creating a warm, inclusive environment.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Prepare and facilitate meal services (breakfast/lunch/snacks) for 300+ daily, offering meat, vegetarian, and vegan options
- Plan and communicate nutritious, culturally diverse menus; optimize food usage to reduce waste
- Support food procurement, receiving, storage, and inventory management
- Track meals served and maintain accurate service records
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and compliance with Public Health and Health & Safety standards
- Engage peers and volunteers in meal preparation and kitchen activities
- Provide crisis support and conflict management in the Drop‑In kitchen
- Train and guide peers and kitchen staff; report any concerns or development opportunities
- Collaborate with team on procedure checklists, conflict resolution, and safety measures

**Other Duties as Assigned**

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Culinary diploma/Certificate or equivalent training
- Valid Food Handler Certificate (must be current and recognized)
- 3-5 years experience, ideally in a Drop‑In or high-volume food setting
- Strong food safety and sanitation knowledge
- Ability to plan menus for diverse dietary needs (vegetarian, vegan, dietary restrictions)
- Experience ordering, receiving, and stock management
- Excellent interpersonal skills and collaborative approach
- Strong record-keeping and basic computer skills
- Physical ability to lift 10-50 lbs
- Commitment to trauma-informed, harm reduction, equity-based work

**COMPENSATION**:

- $25.19 per hour

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:
This position works in the office and community. Sistering is a 24/7 operation, fast paced, intense environment. There may be the risk of exposure to potentially unpredictable behaviours and situations. Sistering is a pet friendly facility and as such, employees can expect to be in the proximity of animals.
