The Program
Cornerstone residential offers services to adults with a wide range of developmental disabilities and and/or mental health issues and operates from a home in the Joyce/Collingwood area of Vancouver, British Columbia. The home has easy access to transit and shopping as well as a variety of recreational options.

Adults residing at Cornerstone are coached in life and social skills, functional education, self-advocacy, community access and integration and relationship building. They can go into the community with staff or on their own. Individuals are supported when attend events or activities such a weekly grocery shopping. They are encouraged to make choices in all aspects of their day to day living.
In Your Role You Will
- Participate in assessing, setting goals, and planning (individual program plans, personal service plans) for individuals in program; documents, implements and contributes to program evaluation.
- Provide life skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills and personal finance; implements personal service plans.
- Assist clients with activities of daily living such as feeding, lifts, transfers, hygiene, grooming and toileting, including transfer of function duties such as gastrostomy feeding, tracheostomy management, and suction and bowel management as required.
- Participate in various client-focused activities in accordance with care plans.
- Recognize, analyze and deal with potential emergency situations such as client’s aggressive behaviour to ensure no harm comes to the client and/or the public; reports problems to supervisor.
- Administer medication to clients in accordance with established policy and procedures.
- Assist with case management by identifying potential problems and reporting any difficulties; provides input to counselor or professional regarding the development of appropriate program plans to achieve residents’ objectives; contributes to the evaluation of residents’ progress and prepare reports.
- Provide emotional support and crisis intervention to persons served which may include nonviolent physical interventions.
- Transport and assist residents to appointments, shopping or leisure activities; operates motor vehicles safely and legally while transporting clients or on WJS business.
- Perform residential maintenance and housekeeping duties such as laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, mowing lawns, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment and food services.
- Maintain reports such as statistics, logbooks and daily activities relating to clients.
- Identify social, economic, recreational and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs; maintain liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials, and the community.
- Utilize practices that promote health, welfare, safety and security of persons served.
- Participate in the OHS Committee as required.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as required.
- Teach persons served to relate in a socially appropriate manner through the use of daily routines and activities.
- Monitor persons served and ensure their safety and well-being; utilizes practices that promote health, welfare, safety and security of persons served.
- Provide behaviour management counseling on a one-to-one and/or group basis by performing duties such as providing feedback on client behaviour, teaching coping techniques and adaptive behaviour, and providing guidance and support.
- Ensure communication and liaison between program, school, family and the community.
- Ensure physical needs of persons served are met by performing duties such as assisting with basic personal hygiene and activities of daily living.
- Accompany persons served to appointments and community outings.
- Operate motor vehicles safely and legally while transporting persons served or on WJS business.
- Advocate effectively for persons served.

The Position
Residence Worker - 30 hours (Grid 10)
Under supervision, the residence worker (RW) is responsible for assisting clients to live successfully in residential settings in an accredited agency. Ensures physical, emotional, social, educational and medical needs are met. Assists clients to enhance quality of life with activities of daily living and the development of life skills. Provides behavioral support and supervision in the program and community, implements and monitors individual program plans through observation and accurate reporting, and participates in operating and maintaining the program.

Residential Child & Youth Worker - 2 hours (Grid 11)
The RCYW provides care to children, youth or adults with moderate to severe behavioural problems in a residential or day program setting in an accredited agency. As key worker for assigned persons served, the RCYW is responsible for overall development and care of those individuals.
