We’re looking for a Director of Public Policy and Government Relations to strengthen and grow ENMAX’s influence with government, regulatory bodies, industry associations, and community stakeholders. In this pivotal role, you’ll champion ENMAX’s vision to lead Alberta’s regulated utilities sector, driving policy and regulatory outcomes that enable innovation, sustainability, and long-term value creation.

As a key advocate, you’ll craft integrated strategies that position ENMAX as a trusted partner and thought leader in the energy transition. Success in this role requires sharp analysis, scenario planning, active participation in stakeholder consultations, and clear, insightful reporting to Senior Management.

Major Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a forward-thinking government relations strategy that advances ENMAX’s focus on the growth of our regulated business mix.- Anticipate, analyze, and influence policy and regulatory trends impacting the energy sector at provincial and municipal levels.- Lead the development of compelling advocacy campaigns and integrated narratives, working closely with Public Policy, Communications, ESG, and Shareholder Relations.- Build and deepen relationships with elected officials, regulatory agencies (AUC, AESO, GOA), municipal leaders, Indigenous communities, and industry partners.- Represent ENMAX in key industry forums, associations, and thought leadership events.- Establish and maintain a Public Policy working group to ensure inclusive, future-focused engagement.-
- Collaborate on the development of submissions, presentations, and public policy positions, leveraging data and insights to strengthen ENMAX’s influence.- Champion ENMAX’s story as an innovative, purpose-driven leader in regulated utilities.- Identify and secure opportunities for ENMAX executives to participate in panels, roundtables, and public discourse, enhancing the company’s visibility and thought leadership.- Monitor and manage ENMAX’s presence on the Lobby Registry, ensuring compliance and transparency- Effectively collate and share information assembled from private and public sources including industry meetings, publications, media sources, conferences and personal contacts- Manage the communication and reporting of market intelligence to Senior Management- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Government Relations team, fostering a culture of innovation, agility, and continuous learning.- Support professional development to ensure the team remains at the forefront of government relations best practices.

Education Required:
- An undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline (Political Science, economics, communications or other related)- 12 years’ progressive experience in government relations, public affairs, or regulatory affairs, ideally within the energy, utilities, or infrastructure sectors.

Qualifications & Experience:
- Deep Alberta electricity industry knowledge, skills and experience- Proven hands-on experience and expert-level understanding of critical elements and the workings of both the wholesale and retail electricity markets- Knowledge of portfolio optimization, physical and financial instruments and customer energy transacting strategies- In depth knowledge of the policy and legislative framework for Alberta’s electricity industry, including AUC and AESO Rules, FEOC Requirements, and MSA oversight and Guidelines.- In depth knowledge of Government and Agency roles, structure, policies and procedures. (related to electricity and sustainable energy)- Excellent awareness of municipal, provincial and federal policy, legislation and regulations
