The Youth Worker will help to plan, structure, and implement activities as well as provide support to youth within the home and out in the community. This is a rewarding and fulfilling opportunity for someone who is passionate about the Indigenous Culture as this is the population you will be supporting.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Establish trusting and meaningful 1-to-1 relationships with children, youth, and families;
- Teaching of living skills and social skills through role modeling of appropriate behaviour;
- Assist with the development and maintenance of problem-solving skills;
- Counseling skills that utilize problem-solving, de-escalation, goal-setting, and preventative interventions with clients in either a 1-to-1 or group scenario;
- Documentation of activities, themes, and follow-through of the youth;
- Providing youth with a sense of safety, acceptance, and nurturance;
- Remain within the “Scope of Practice” of Child and Youth Care Counselors;
- Implement strategies that include planned daily activities, coordinated treatment interventions, structured environments, and organized recreational and social activities that meet the recreational, educational, and therapeutic needs of the youth;
- Help individuals and families identify personal strengths and resources for positive change;
- Help develop and implement individual and group treatment programs;
- Respond effectively and calmly to crisis situations;
- Act as a resource for individuals and their families;
- Perform clerical duties to maintain youth support, youth goal setting, and team communication;
- Additional duties or tasks as directed by Leadership

**Qualifications**
- Human Services Degree or Diploma in a related field such as Child & Youth Care, Social Work, etc. with at least two (2) years of related experience;
- Current Criminal (with vulnerable sector search) and Current Intervention Record Check (6 months or newer);
- Driver’s license with clear abstract and $2 million liability coverage on personal vehicle;
- Strong interpersonal skills that bridge the distance with individuals who may have a resistance to relationships, different morals/values, and alternative lifestyle choices;
- Non-judgmental manner with excellent active listening skills;
- Empathic and the ability to maintain strong, personal boundaries;
- Strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills, as well as good writing skills;
- Experience in working with diverse cultural and religious communities;
- Understanding of Client-Centered Theories and the Medicine Wheel;
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, beliefs, and traditions;
- Problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills;
- Proven skills to support through a trauma-informed scope
