**The Role**
Under the joint supervision of Dr. Bohdan Nosyk (Scientist, CHÉOS) and Louise Meilleur (Director of Health Surveillance, FNHA), the Statistician will assist the team leads and other team members in the statistical analysis of population health data including data holdings stewarded by the FNHA.
The Statistician will join a multidisciplinary team of researchers and FNHA surveillance personnel engaged in a diverse portfolio of leading-edge health services research projects focusing on the impacts of substance use and related health care policies within BC communities including First Nations.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of high-impact studies evaluating the impact of local health services and policies in substance use including peer-led initiatives, perinatal care services, and the provincial evaluations of the risk mitigation guidance and prescribed safer supply.
**Work Performed**
- Provides analytical support for research by conducting quantitative data analysis using descriptive and statistical methodologies and software
- Promotes best practices in Indigenous research and assists researchers with engaging and collaborating with communities and people with lived/living experience in respectful and meaningful ways
- Supports the implementation of the FNHA health surveillance research and policy agendas by contributing to research projects and conducting knowledge exchange activities to address health priorities
- Performs data retrieval for studies by writing computer programs and macros to capture and edit data
- Provides support for the development and maintenance of large databases
- Identifies and provides advice about data limitations and ensures adequate data quality for analytic purposes
- Serves as a resource on experimental design, statistical methodology and theory, and recommends statistical methods for data analysis
- Collaborates on writing scientific papers and abstracts by providing statistical results, writing methods and results, and preparing tables and figures
- Collaborates on writing grant proposals, providing a priori power and sample size calculations
**Working Conditions**
The position is primarily based at CHÉOS, located in St. Paul’s Hospital but will allow for a flexible hybrid or remote working arrangement with appropriate workspace on-site as required. Travel to meetings and conferences may be required from time to time.
**Skills and Qualifications**
- Master’s degree in biostatistics or statistics
- Expertise in statistical packages - SAS, S-plus/R
- Expertise in statistical techniques - longitudinal, hierarchical, time-to-event analysis, etc.
- Knowledge of health services research methods - methods for inference in experimental and non-experimental settings; methods for analyzing health administrative databases
- Knowledge of Oracle programming is an asset
