**Reconciliation Youth Worker Job Description**
For over 30 years BGC Cochrane & Area has supported children, youth and families in Cochrane and area through Out of School Care (K-6), Summer Camps, Youth programs, Youth Outreach services, BGC Day Homes and community partnerships. Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life.
**Role Summary**:
Reporting to the Manager of Youth Programs, the Youth Reconciliation Worker is an essential part of the Youth Program delivery team. They will work together with the Manager & the Youth Team as well as independently to provide quality, prevention-based programs aimed at youth 12 to 22 years old.
The Youth Team has a strong commitment to delivering programs inclusive of all youth regardless of their identity, cultural background or life circumstances. Programming for vulnerable youth including, Indigenous, 2SLGBTQ, as well as those facing life challenges with bullying, homelessness, and mental health challenges.
An integral part of the Reconciliation Worker position is working with community members, groups and agencies, as well as local schools to implement awareness, education and experiences in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation. The Reconciliation Worker will also plan and promote community events (on and off reserve) and public awareness campaigns that increase awareness of the effects of inter-generational trauma caused by the residential schools, racism and stigma that indigenous people continue to face.
**Responsibilities**
- Act as a Youth Advocate, fostering Youth Leadership and Development, at the local, provincial and national level
- Seek opportunities to engage with youth and promote youth voice and current issues in Stoney Nakoda First Nation, Cochrane, Western Rocky View County communities
- Engage youth in volunteer opportunities at BGC Cochrane and Area
- Build and foster relationships with appropriate stakeholders and work collaboratively with other youth service providers in the community
- Plan and deliver the approved program suite as well as specialised programs to groups and individuals as needed
- Promote, advertise and deliver programs to youth in the greater rural community of Western Rocky View County, including Cochrane and Morley communities
- Offer support, referrals, training opportunities, guidance, etc. to youth in need
- Plan and deliver public workshops and events raising awareness of BGC’s work towards Reconciliation.
- Support the delivery of the Teen Drop-In at The Club, marketed as a barrier-free and inclusive-to-all space
- Be active and innovative on social media platforms to ensure program messages reach a targeted audience
- Support the management of program budget in conjunction with Program Manager
- Evaluate programs and produce reports as required
- Participate in organizational events and fundraising activities

**Skills & Qualifications**
- Degree or Diploma in the Human or Social Services field, or equivalent work experience
- Knowledge of culturally appropriate practices in Indigenous communities.
- Knowledge of youth culture and current youth issues
- Experience working with youth (12+) in a variety of settings
- Experience in working across cultures, and with Indigenous youth in particular, is an asset
- Experience working with individuals, families and groups and in a collaborative community-based approach
- Intuitive relationship-building and outstanding communication skills
- Strong ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Strong organizational skills and comfort working in a dynamic, evolving setting
- Excellent judgment and decision-making ability
- Must have reliable personal vehicle and be able to provide clean driver’s abstract
- Current standard first aid certification is required in this role
**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 24 months
**Salary**: $15.00-$19.00 per hour
