The Excavation Team at Alternative Landscaping Ltd. works on a wide range of projects, including sewer and water installation, total lot clearing, demolition, site preparation excavation and backfilling.
We're looking for experienced Class 1 drivers to join our team.
About the Job:
- Operate and drive primarily tractor-trailer, tandem vehicles and straight-body trucks to transport goods and materials mainly on local and short-haul routes; may drive special purpose trucks such as sand truck, concrete mixer, or dump trucks.
- Perform pre-trip, enroute and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle such as condition of equipment.
- Ensure cargo is secured properly in accordance with safety requirements and follow safety procedures for transporting goods.
- Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption, administer bills of lading, and manually or electronically maintain log.
- Perform general labour duties on occasion to assist project crews.
**Requirements**:
- Demonstrated work experience as a Class 1 Driver.
- Practical experience with electronic/cellular equipment and software.
- Ability to drive long hours and travel regularly.
- Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations.
- Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions etc.)
- Valid Class 1 driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract.
- Mechanical skills to correctly identify equipment issues.
- Strong attention to detail (aware and observant) always to notice anything that may compromise job safety or construction tasks.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a vehicle and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Occasional heavy labour.
- 10 hour shifts standard; some weekend work may be required.
- This is a seasonal, full-time position that may lead into a year-round opportunity.
- Wage is dependent upon experience.
**What we offer**:
- Competitive starting wages based on experience; increases based on performance.
- Full-time seasonal work with the opportunity for year-round employment.
- While occasional weekend work may be required, our norm is 10-hour shifts Monday through Friday.
