**Summary**:
The Controller will primarily be responsible for the preparation of internal financial reports and analysis that drive good decision-making. Compiling numbers and data is a given but the role is required to work alongside management to drive value from the business by adding your knowledge of the business and a keen desire to understand business drivers and the markets. Typical of the role in most organizations you will also be responsible for timely and accurate external financial reporting and a smooth external audit, ensuring adequate internal controls are in place and that financial policies are adhered to.
**Responsibilities in Detail**:
- Lead and develop a small team of dedicated employees
- Prepare monthly financial information for the Company including financial statements and detailed performance analytics
- Assist Managers in understanding their numbers and provide suggestions for business improvements
- Prepare quarterly financial statements and highly summarized management discussion and analysis (MDA)
- Ensure the organization utilizes ethical accounting practices and standards
- Take ownership for the maintenance and usefulness of the Company’s general ledger, budgeting and reporting systems and the chart of accounts
- Prepare detailed financial statements and highly summarized MDA and coordinate the annual external audit fieldwork
- Support the annual 5-year Planning process which is managed by the CFO
- Manage the annual Budgeting process including the preparation of Board information and analysis
- Ensure tax compliance and coordinate filings
- Oversee the accounts payable function
- Oversee the Expense Management Systems
- Manage bank relationship for the day-to-day cash management activities
- Prepare accounting memos to support reporting positions.
- Support finance staff in day-to-day transaction processing
- Involvement in system development and process improvement initiatives
- Manage the monthly close process, including balance sheet reconciliations and reforecasting balance of year.
**Qualifications and Required Competencies**:
- Strong financial skills
- Current professional accounting designation from recognized organization in Canada
- Ability to Lead: Experience in leading teams to excel - required three years of leadership in financial role
- Judgement: Exhibits the skill to understand how their accounting and financial skills can help the business prosper and how to balance risks with rewards
- Keen Desire to Learn and Develop: Understands that really knowing the business is important to being a good financial business partner
- Accountability: Takes ownership of personal workload, as well as the workload of employees under his/her direction
- Attention to Detail: Attends to details and pursues quality in the accomplishment of tasks, regardless of the volume of duties encountered

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
