**CERTIFIED BLASTER**

Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the Certified Blaster is responsible to design, prepare, and detonate explosive-related blasts. The Certified Blaster is responsible for the safe handling of explosives while leading the blasting crew and providing on-the-job training to crew members. This is a rotational based position in a remote location where camp accommodations and meals will be provided.
**CORE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES**:
- Design blast patterns, prepare blast holes and oversee the detonation of blasts
- Ensure the blast area is vacant and employees have received a proper warning
- Complete blast reports, inventory records, and other appropriate documentation
- Handle, store and transport explosives and accessories in accordance with regulations
- Investigate misfires as needed and recommend appropriate follow up
- Ensure that required signage is maintained for all blasting sites and explosive magazines
- Ensure that all regulations, both federally and provincially, are adhered to
- Use practices consistent with company policies and procedures from applicable technical modules, surface blasting SOP's, regulatory and safety policies and procedures
- Develop professional relationships with both internal and external customers to successfully meet objectives and add value for customers
- Communicate all relevant information to the blast crew, including a review of the hazard assessment through the safety tailgate meeting
**EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS**:
- Minimum 2 years of related explosives industry work is required
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent is required
- Manitoba Blaster Certification required (or the ability to obtain due to work experience)
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License required
- Criminal record check required
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Experience leading, managing, and mentoring a team is required
- Critical thinking and effective decision-making skills are required
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- Strong accuracy and attention to detail is required
- Ensure safety is always a top priority
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
