About the Role:
Reporting to the Facility & Safety Manager, the Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting and promoting a culture of safety across all greenhouse sites. You’ll be the go-to person for workplace inspections, safety training, compliance tracking, and coordinating safety meetings and audits.
You’ll help maintain all safety programs, lead monthly inspections, assist with investigations, manage WCB documentation, and collaborate with management to ensure safe work practices are being followed. A key part of this role includes collecting, analyzing, and reporting safety data to monitor trends and support continuous improvement initiatives
Key Responsibilities: Program & Compliance
- Conduct regular workplace safety inspections and audits across multiple sites
- Support investigations of safety incidents and near misses; document findings and follow-up actions
- Maintain and enforce health and safety programs, SOPs, and policies to meet WorkSafeBC standards
- Lead and participate in crew safety talks, Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings, and safety training sessions
- Monitor PPE inventory and first aid supplies, and ensure correct usage across teams
- Assist with WCB claims, modified work plans, and documentation
- Liaise with regulatory bodies during audits or inspections
- Provide coaching and corrective action support related to safety practices
Safety Data & Analytics
- Track and analyze safety performance data across all greenhouse sites
- Maintain safety dashboards and reporting tools to highlight trends in incidents, inspections, and corrective actions
- Use data to identify high-risk areas and support preventive strategies
- Collaborate with managers to share safety KPIs and lead data-driven conversations during safety reviews
- Ensure safety data is consistently updated, well-organized, and audit-ready
- Support proactive planning by using analytics to recommend improvements in equipment usage, staff behavior, or environmental controls
Core Skills & Attributes:
- Strong public speaking and communication skills
- Fluent in Spanish and English (required for effective training and communication)
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
- Confident in conflict resolution and assertive when addressing safety violations
- Data-savvy with the ability to turn metrics into actionable insights
- Able to work independently and collaborate with multiple departments
- Flexible and reliable—available for extended hours when needed
- Analytical and proactive in identifying and addressing safety risks
Experience & Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of experience in a safety-related role, preferably in agriculture or industrial settings
- Strong knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations and workplace safety standards
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel, Word, Outlook, Visio, and Forms)
- Familiar with Lean manufacturing or 5S practices (asset)
- Experience with reporting tools or safety dashboards is a strong asset
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
- OHS certification is an asset
