Cider Assistant

**Cider Assistant Role**

Junction Orchard & Cidery is looking for a Cidery Assistant who is seeking a full-time position and has the willingness to learn.

**Work Location: 273 Prospect Lake Road, Victoria, BC**

**Tuesday - Saturday 9 am-5 pm** _(Will be variable as the needs change throughout the season)_

**About you and the role**:

- You are able to work well independently as well as in a team environment.
- You are able to work outside in non-ideal conditions (cold and wet winters / Hot dry summers / insects/bugs / wildlife/bears on property)
- You are physically strong and able to perform the physical requirements of the job.
- You have a mechanical aptitude

**Roles and Responsibilities include but not limited to**:

- **Orchard work**:_ _Experience or education in the following areas but not necessary:_
- Pruning / thinning
- orcharding / farming
- plant health / disease
- machinery usage
- Knowledge of apples and apple varieties
- **Community Apple**:_ _(and other fruits) Program_
- Organise and schedule sourcing community-based apples and other fruits)
- **Tasting Room**:_
- Willing to learn how to accurately describe each cider
- Good customer service skills
- Experience preferred but not necessary
- **Cider Making**_
- Assist and then eventually take over bottling (and canning) and pasteurizing
- Creativity
- Pressing and fermentation management
- Kegging (must be able to maneuver full kegs)
- Cleanliness and attention to detail + organized
- Chemical analysis (laboratory work)
- Sensory experience
- Experience with fermentation (brewing, cider, wine, distilling) would be ideal. A background in sciences, food, horticulture, restaurants, cannabis

**Who Junction Orchard & Cidery is**:
LOCAL IS EVERYTHING TO US. When we are searching for our ingredients, we start with the Saanich Peninsula and then expand out to the rest of the Island. If we cannot find what we are looking for then we search the mainland. Some exceptions to this are hops, which we source from around BC, and some spices and botanicals. We like to meet with our ingredient suppliers before using their products to make sure we align on our values and commitment to quality.

**Salary**: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
