The Alberta Public Service (APS) is taking a One Finance approach to the delivery of financial services. **Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning, the Financial Analyst performs all work within the parameters of relevant legislation, policies, guidelines, business practices and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The position also facilitates and fosters an effective, efficient financial team environment and will report to the Director of Financial Planning on associated duties.

The Financial Analyst plays a key role in budget management and fiscal analysis. The position provides professional, technical, analytical, and consultative services on financial matters to Ministry staff, and external clients. This position is responsible for provision of financial planning, budget, forecasts and Enhanced Policing Program to ensure the needs of the Ministry are met. This position is also holding the responsibilities of cover-off Senior Budget Officer.

The Financial Analyst will provide support to the Financial Planning unit to fulfill Ministry accountability responsibilities under the Financial Administration Act, the Government Organization Act, and the Results Based Budgeting Act:

- Assist in developing processes to prepare the Ministry’s annual budget submission to Treasury Board and finalization of the Ministry’s Main Estimates, including the Minister’s briefing package and Minister’s key budget messages required for the Committee of Supply debate.
- Assist in providing analysis and interpretation of program area budget and forecast submissions.
- Working with program areas and staff to ensure accurate updates and financial reports are prepared regarding projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Coordinates the preparation of detailed budget, including communicating budget targets and revisions to program staff and managers. and assisting in preparation of annual budgets.
- Assists in preparation of the Ministry's annual expense and revenue budgets and three-year fiscal targets, including Committee of Supply.
- Runs Financial expense reports (cost centre reports and Salary/Wage report).
- Assists in compiling divisional forecast, including a review of the current forecast and prior month forecast for operating, capital and non-cash for programs.
- Assists in preparing letter for municipalities/First Nation (update contact information, billing information, officer FTE utilization).
- Assists in requesting invoice creation in Financial Operations Branch based on financial review of FTE utilization/billing information.
- Provides assistances with regards to financial information and responsibilities to the program areas.
- Prepares ad-hoc financial analysis, as directed by the Manager of Financial Planning.
