**The Position**
Reporting to **_Chief Operating Officer_**, this position will be responsible for facilitating, promoting, and ensuring economic vitality to secure opportunities for economic and business development. The position will develop, recommend and implement an Economic Development Strategy and program for STC and the communities which includes marketing and promotion of economic opportunities and investment. The position will facilitate community and economic development planning and initiatives; identify and foster community economic development & tourism marketing opportunities; secure funding & partnerships for economic development activities, events, & programs; assist local organizations, businesses, and individuals by providing forums for economic opportunities. This position will work very closely with STC’s corporate business operations and investment arm of STC Investments Inc., the Legacy Partnerships Unit, and STC Employment and Training Services.
**Responsibilities**
- ** Facilitating and working with STC Member Nations economic development boards/coordinators on each community’s economic development planning process and recognizing how STC can assist.**:
- ** Researching and providing recommendations on community economic development opportunities.**:
- ** Evaluating results of economic development studies and agreements and making recommendations.**:
- ** Identifying opportunities for economic development based on sectors (i.e. natural resource development, tourism, cultural arts and crafts, etc.)**:
- ** Acting as a liaison between STC and Member Nations, local businesses and individuals, and representatives of government, business, and industry concerning economic development**:
- ** Developing partnerships within the community to develop and promote opportunities**:
- ** Assisting in the promotion of opportunities to take advantage of economic development opportunities and major projects.**:
- ** Liaises with the agencies to capitalize on potential projects and marketing opportunities.**:
- ** Securing funding and partnerships for economic development activities, events, and programs.**:
- ** Consulting with industry and government representatives concerning eligibility requirements for funding**:
- ** Develop, facilitate and deliver train the trainer sessions on proposal/grant writing for funding to support community economic development and tourism opportunities.**:
- ** Assisting STC Member Communities by providing forums for economic opportunities.**:
- ** Work with all STC First Nation portfolio Councilors, Land Managers, and other economic development officers in all STC member First Nation communities to assist and support the development of various community-based economic projects and action plans.**:
- ** Liaise closely with and establish strong networks and relationships among all other agencies and services supporting regional and community economic development, small business counseling and financing, entrepreneurship training, and other support services.**:
- ** Encourage the overall development of an entrepreneurial culture of small businesses and/or growth of smaller-scale co-operative developments to advance the growth and employment opportunities of First Nation individuals and their communities.**:
- Research future potential economic development and tourism event opportunities such as new tradeshows, events, festivals, conferences, and demonstrations
- Perform other related duties as defined and assigned by the reporting Director or designate on an as-required basis.
**Education and Experience**
- A completed bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, economic development, business administration, or tourism management with at least 5 years of experience working in hospitality, marketing, community economic development, travel trade, tourism, and/or public relations in a management role. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered;
- At least 5 years of demonstrated experience managing, executing, & delivering successful special events, community development projects, & tourism marketing campaigns;
- At least 5 years of demonstrated facilitation experience with community economic development planning, entrepreneurship training, and project management;
- Experience working within tourism, economic development, or community development capacity with First Nations; familiarity with First Nations culture, and history is considered an asset;
**Knowledge Skills and Abilities**
- Knowledge in community economic development, advertising, and tourism marketing techniques theories, and practices;
- Knowledge of local, regional, and territorial economic development potential and opportunities;
- Ability to identify and promote community economic development projects, events, & initiatives using creativity, resourcefulness, and innovative thinking;
- Possess strong competencies in diplomacy and tact to work alongside
