Assembly Line Worker

**JOB OBJECTIVE**

The Assembly Worker is responsible for the successful assembly of lasagna products according to signature recipes. They contribute to overall lasagna production needs in a way that promotes a positive work environment, as well as successful execution of production quotas and maintaining food safety standards.

In addition, the Assembly Worker promotes organizational mission and goals, and shows the way to achieve them, as well as influences others to act in support of ideas, programs, and initiatives while getting the team excited about and committed to furthering the organization’s objectives.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Responsible for following signature recipes to execute the assembly of lasagna products at the direction of the Plant Manager and Product Development Manager
- Prepare ingredients for production line including batch prep of cheeses and cheese mixtures
- Set up production line with ingredients such as pasta sheets, cheese products, and sauces and equipment including bowls, ladles, strainers, trays, scales, etc.
- Assemble lasagnas following correct measurements of each ingredient according to recipes and company standards
- Utilize various tools and processing equipment as required including scales, cheese grinders, mixers, etc.
- Verify that finished materials meet quality standards of the company by utilizing appropriate quality assurance techniques and tests as directed
- Remove finished product from the production area once completed and label and store for the next step of the production process
- Complete accurate and thorough documentation of shift production ingredient levels and quantities for proper record keeping and traceability
- Maintain a clean and sterile environment for food preparation, processing, storage, and packaging
- Sanitize all materials and machinery parts at the end of each shift and clean the workspace by following company and CFIA cleanliness standards
- Responsible for adhering to Food Safety, GMP’s, and CFIA standards at all times
- Evaluate operation and condition of equipment and reporting maintenance issues to the Plant Manager as needed
- Ability to work at a fast pace to achieve expected production quotas
- Maintain an organized work station including machine operating room, fridges, freezers, and storage areas
- Contribute as a team member by working closely with other team members to ensure product quality and output standards are maintained
- Strive to uphold a safe working environment and be health & safety conscious; actively involved in maintaining and improving a safe work environment
- Ensure Carmen’s Group and brand standards are upheld on a daily basis in accordance with the Marketing team
- Comply with company policies and procedures, especially health and safety rules, use of personal protective equipment and WHMIS
- Other duties as assigned

**QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS**

**Education**
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Food Handlers Certificate an asset

**Equipment**
- Production equipment includes but is not limited to: mixers, grinders, and scales
- Various mixing/blending equipment and tools

**Experience**
- One to two years food manufacturing or preparation experience an asset
- Experience in a HACCP approved food manufacturing facility an asset
- Excellent oral communication skills required
- Positive interpersonal skills required
- Understanding of food handling and sanitation standards

**LINES OF COMMUNICATION**

**Reporting Relationship**

This position reports directly to the Plant Manager, Mercanti Specialty Foods. Work is controlled through occasional checking of accuracy, quality, and adherence to detailed instructions or through the structured nature of the work itself. Some discretion in decision making may be exercised within predetermined limits and procedures.

This position has no direct reports.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**

Frequent working conditions include:

- Working indoors;
- Standing for long periods of time;
- Constant movement;
- Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs;
- Exposure to heat and kitchen chemicals;
- Exposure to manufacturing equipment, knives, grinder, mixer, and other production tools as required;
- Exposure to raw food materials;
- Exposure to chemicals and cleaning substances;
- Extreme temperatures

**Special Working Conditions**
- May be required to work overtime on occasion to meet business needs

Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 - 40 per week
