The Wetland Biologist will primarily be responsible for completing desktop and field-based wetland assessments, delineations, permitting, and mitigation related to the conservation and management of wetland resources. The role includes all phases of Project work from approvals and pre-construction through to construction, operation and abandonment.

In addition, your role will be to:

- Conduct, direct and coordinate field surveys
- Act as a technical lead to the project team
- Cultivate a work environment committed to the health, safety and wellness of employees
- Establish a highly efficient and positive culture where employees are empowered and accountable for areas of responsibility
- Complete both desktop and field-based wetland delineations and classifications
- Support the development of wetland impact assessments, mitigation, and restoration monitoring plans
- Prepared Wetland Assessment and Impact Reports (WAIR) and Wetland Assessment and Impact Forms (WAIF)
- Perform field-based wetland assessments using the ABWRET-A Tool
- Complete desktop assessments using the ABWRET-D Tool
- Support other biophysical field assessments (e.g., wildlife, vegetation, etc.), when required.

Qualifications:

- Post-secondary degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field of study.
- Formal leadership training would be considered an asset
- Minimum 5 years professional experience as a biologist, specializing in wetland ecology, or related role
- Experience conducting wetland field assessments and surveys
- Experienced leading field work, and coordinating with multi-disciplinary field teams
- Experience classifying and delineating wetlands in prairie, parkland, and boreal habitats
- Possess a Professional Biologist designation (P.Biol.) with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (ASPB) and Qualified Wetland Science Practitioner (QWSP)
- Experience with ESRI products, such as ArcGIS desktop, ArcGIS Pro, Survey 123 and Field Maps would be an asset
- Experience related to pipeline and transmission line construction would be an asset
- Experience and knowledge related to other biophysical disciplines, such as wildlife, vegetation, soils, etc. would be an asset
- Knowledge of various acts and regulations pertaining to wetlands, including but not limited to, the Alberta Water Act and the BC Water Sustainability Act
- Knowledge of common wetland classification systems, such as the Canadian Wetland Classification System and the Alberta Wetland Classification System
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, prioritizing and decision-making skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with mínimal supervision
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated and highly organized with strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to build strong, lasting relationships with regulators and key stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Valid Driver’s License, with ability to maintain insurability under the company’s insurance carrier
