Construction Monitor

**About the role**
CANEIL (acting as the owner’s engineer) is looking for two Construction Monitors to support a utility scale solar project in New York state. These are seven month contract roles working 40 hours per week. The monitors will serve as the client’s “eyes and ears” on site, ensuring that the PV array, substation, access roads and associated infrastructure are built according to the plans, specifications and safety requirements. Accommodations, a daily meal allowance and a truck are provided for the duration of the assignment.
**Key responsibilities**
- Conduct site inspections: observe construction activities, evaluate workmanship and verify compliance with drawings, specifications and quality standards.
- Maintain safety and risk management: identify hazards, enforce safety protocols and promote a culture of safety.
- Document progress: prepare daily reports, photo logs and inspection records; track deficiencies and ensure they are corrected.
- Monitor schedule and budget: compare progress against milestones, assist with quantity verification for progress payments and highlight deviations.
- Facilitate communication: liaise between contractors, consultants and the owner; attend meetings and ensure that changes are documented and approved.
- Review documentation: examine shop drawings and change orders; support QA/QC by witnessing tests and verifying corrective actions.
**Qualifications**
- Diploma or degree in civil engineering, electrical engineering, construction management or related discipline.
- Five or more years of field experience in construction inspection or quality assurance on industrial, civil or renewable energy projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, codes, safety regulations and project management principles.
- Excellent documentation, reporting and communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to work in remote field environments.
**Assets**
- Experience on solar or renewable energy projects.
- Familiarity with the New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code.
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), especially Article 690 (Solar Photovoltaic Systems), Article 705 (Interconnected Electric Power Production Sources) and related articles governing electrical installation, labeling and grounding.
- Training or certification in quality assurance/quality control or safety (e.g., OSHA 30).
Pay: $40.00-$50.00 per hour
