This unique role will co-lead Quality, Safety and Accreditation initiatives within BC Cancer Vancouver Centre. Vancouver Centre is the largest provincial Cancer Centre and you will be working in a complex and dynamic multidisciplinary environment, collaborating closely with medical and operational leadership, staff, Indigenous Health team, and patients and families, to ensure that BC Cancer patients and families receive the best care, every day.
This role is integral to supporting a timely patient safety event review process and will support, and/or lead the implementation of Quality and Patient Safety initiatives and Accreditation requirements.
The Leader, Patient Safety, Quality and Accreditation (PSQA) assists the Executive Director and Senior Executive Director with planning, implementing, coordinating and monitoring program-specific, population based quality and performance improvement programs, focusing on maintaining an environment of continuous improvement. Works in collaboration with Quality, Safety, and Risk Management at PHSA and clinical and administrative leaders and staff within and across BCCA to prioritize improvement projects, and develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates the process.
What you'll do
Work with program staff to develop, implement, and evaluate indicators of quality outcomes and performance; prioritize quality initiatives based on program functions, needs and performance measurement system; plan, develop and implement Patient Safety and Quality Improvement (PS&QI) education, initiatives and materials including evaluation and PS&QI sustainment tools.
Ensure BCCA program-based quality and safety activities are in alignment with accreditation requirements. Provides accreditation education to program staff as required. Leads program level actions to respond to recommendations arising from accreditation surveys, and to address new accreditation requirements.
**Lead retrospective (e**: Root Cause Analysis) and/or prospective reviews (e.g. Failure Modes Effect Analysis) necessitated by safety events, critical incidents or process issues related to the program; monitors program staff and physician perceptions of safety, risk and quality improvement.
Proactively educate program staff regarding regulatory issues, new statutes and/or guidelines, and safety, quality, and risk management activities
Contribute to continuous quality improvement of the department by identifying and evaluating new initiatives, developments and trends in PS&QI, participating in agency lead process improvement initiatives
What you bring

**Qualifications**:
Master's degree in Nursing, Health Administration, related health discipline or other relevant area
A minimum of five (5) years of clinical practice in the program area or an equivalent level of education, training, and experience.
**You have**:
Knowledge of legal, ethical, and clinical issues associated with standard of care practices, and Accreditation Canada requirements
Knowledge and expertise in Quality Management, Performance Improvement, Patient Safety and Accreditation standards preferred.
Analytical and problem-solving skills with a global perspective in order to incorporate the organization's systems and strategies when developing viable solutions to program problems
Evaluation techniques and methodologies including statistical analysis methods and presentation of information
Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls calls for justice, and how they intersect across the health care system.
Support team members on their learning journey, ensuring education strategy for team/department to implement Indigenous Cultural Safety at a practical level.
Work collaboratively with appropriate Indigenous teams/departments to ensure ICS lens applied holistically.
Have commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
