Athletics Facility Operator

**General Purpose**
Reporting to the Supervisor, Gryphon Centre Area, the incumbent will be responsible for the operation of a variety of machinery and related equipment used in the safe upkeep of a twin pad arena including ice maintenance and appropriate checklists and documentation to ensure the requirements are being met. As required, operates all related equipment including but not limited to ice resurfacer, ice edger, chopping equipment, blade changing equipment; and other duties as assigned.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
The incumbent will interact with a wide variety of users (100 Intramural hockey teams, men's and women's varsity teams, recreational hockey, skating, and a diverse group of community users) and is responsible for assisting in ensuring that all facilities required by any scheduled program are safe and ready for use. The incumbent will act as an ambassador for the University of Guelph and the Department of Athletics by providing exceptional customer service while handling customer complaints, scheduling conflicts and proposing solutions when able.
Regular daily duties of the Athletics Facility Operator include but are not limited to: preparation of the ice surface, monitoring of the compressor and mechanical equipment, recording data in the compressor room, ensuring effective and efficient operation of all mechanical equipment, keeping track of any and all injuries, thefts and other incidents in the Facility Operators Log Book, and maintaining all arena equipment including nets, Zamboni, boards and gates.
**Requirements**:
- Grade 12 graduation, along with previous experience operating an ice resurfacing machine, tractors and its attachments and other small machines. A College diploma in Recreation Facility Management would be considered an asset.
- A working knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Act and knowledge of established safety practices and commitment to safe work practices.
- The ability to read and interpret schedules, equipment directions and instructions.
- Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills are required, as are the ability to work effectively both individually without supervision and as a member of a team.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and computer skills.
- Emergency First Aid and CPR “B” would be considered an asset.
