Nicola Similkameen School District is located on the Traditional, Ancestral, Unceded, and Shared territories of the Nłeʔkepmux and Syilx people, stewards of this land since time immemorial.

Nicola-Similkameen School District No. 58 (“NSSD” or “the District”) includes two communities which are located in the Similkameen and Nicola Valleys, offering peaceful community living in close proximity to exciting urban centres. Caring and passionate district and school personnel have developed strong relationships and partnerships with parents and the community, resulting in innovative, supportive educational programs. NSSD’s unique, diverse community fosters inclusion and cooperation. With 12 schools, including alternate and Distance education schools, the district has partnerships with daycare operators providing excellent programs. The District works closely with our Indigenous partners through an established Local Education Agreement and Indigenous Education Council.

**The Role**:
Reporting to the Superintendent of Schools, the Assistant Superintendent plays a key role in the strategic and operational leadership of the District. This position provides direct support to schools and district staff in areas such as curriculum and instruction, student learning, leadership development, Indigenous education, inclusive education, and policy implementation.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
- Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts effectively
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of instructional pedagogy pertaining to the BC curriculum, assessment, and reporting practices in diverse and inclusive classroom environments.
- Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and monitoring of district educational programs and initiatives.
- Support principals, vice-principals, and teachers in instructional leadership and school improvement planning.
- Promote equity, inclusion, and Indigenous student success in all aspects of district programming.
- Assist in the recruitment, mentorship, and professional development of school leaders and educators.
- Contribute to district planning processes, policy development, and strategic initiatives.
- Act as a member of the senior management team, supporting the overall operational and strategic direction of the district.

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- A Master’s degree in Education or a related field.
- A valid BC Teaching Certificate (or eligibility to obtain one).
- Extensive successful experience (5 years minimum) in educational leadership as a school-based principal.
- Experience at both the elementary and secondary levels is considered an asset.
- Experience serving on District Committees
- Proven track record on evidence-based literacy and numeracy Initiatives
- Experience leading School-Based Team Meetings
- Experience with and Understanding of Student Support Services from K-12
- A strong understanding of BC’s education system, curriculum, and current trends in pedagogy and assessment.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and reconciliation with Indigenous communities.
- Experience and genuine alignment with supporting indigenous learning, implementing Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s call to action, implementing Indigenous ways of knowing, and working with Local Education Agreements are an asset.
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in media relations, working with community police liaison, public speaking and conflict resolution.

**Desirable Attributes**:

- A relational leadership style grounded in integrity, empathy, and transparency.
- A proven ability to lead through change, build capacity, and inspire others.
- Knowledge of rural and Indigenous education contexts is an asset.
- Experience with Extra Curricular Activities and/or Student Leadership Initiatives

**The salary range for this position is as per the BCPSEA Salary Grid for Exempt Staff: $182,263 - $202,515.**
