**At Stewart Homes, we believe that medically fragile and developmentally disabled children and adults can receive 24-hour care without missing out on the warmth and comfort of a home setting. For over forty years, our 200+ staff have been supporting children and young adults who are medically fragile with complex care needs. We presently have over 80 residents at our eleven staffed homes in Peterborough and Pickering. We are fully licensed by the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services, and the only fully CARF Accredited OARTY member providing services for medically fragile children in Ontario.**
**Each of our residences is a small community. Children and young people living with us are usually here for extended periods, often well in to adulthood. Our residences become their homes in every sense of the word. Our staff are a diverse team who are enthusiastic about providing warm and friendly homes for our residents.**
**We currently have openings for Permanent full time employees who hold a full G driver's license or have had a G2 for at least one year. Full Time Direct Care Worker positions offer competitive compensation and a health and dental benefits package for the employee and their eligible family members.**
**Full Time hourly rate: $24.32 starting, $25.58 plus health and dental benefits after successful completion of probation period, $26.85 after 2080 hours in position AND completion of related education (as noted in job description) OR 4160 hours**
**Note: The above wage includes the provincial government wage enhancement of $3/hr for healthcare workers.**

**Major Responsibilities**
Under supervision, assists in and/or carries out some or all of:
- Client daily care, management, nurturing and assistance;
- Individual and group community activities;
- Life and self-help skills and training;
- Liaison with families, schools, medical and other supportive services and with other Stewart Homes programs;
- Preparation of internal reports as assigned;
- Cleaning and basic interior home maintenance and light exterior home maintenance tasks as assigned.
**Knowledge and Skills Required**
- General knowledge of developmental needs (intellectual, emotional, physical and social) of children and youth;
- Appreciation of children and adolescents' needs for stable, consistent caring from adults;
- Demonstrated skills pertinent to the management of children and young adults in a residential setting;
- Ability to relate appropriately to young people and their families;
**Hiring Criteria**
- Community College DSW, PSW, ECE, RPN, SSW, CYW, EA diploma; OR
- Other Community College Social Services diploma PLUS two years of satisfactory DCW2 work experience with Stewart Homes; OR
- Bachelor's Degree PLUS one year of satisfactory work with Stewart Homes. OR
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities relevant to the position gained through two or more years work experience in a similar position.
**Other Requirements**
- Criminal reference check with a vulnerable sector screening - _current within 60 days_
- Health assessment and proof of required immunizations - _prior to commencement of work_
- Child welfare record check with CAS
- CPR and Standard First Aid - _within the last year_
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention - _within the last year or willing to become certified_
- Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required (3 doses) - _prior to commencement of work_
- **Driver's license is required; G or G2 for a minimum of 1 year**
**Hours of Work**
Full time schedule is a 2 week rotation, working every other weekend. Hours vary between day, afternoon and some 12 hour shifts. The schedule includes being on-call for a 24 hour period once in each 4 week schedule.
