BrightStar Respite is a trusted support organization serving children and youth with developmental, behavioural, and medical complexities across Alberta. We specialize in providing trauma-informed, family-centered care for children and families who need a compassionate, professional team they can rely on.
We are seeking a Team Lead who is experienced, compassionate, and ready to guide a multidisciplinary team dedicated to helping children and youth thrive.
Position Summary
The Team Lead provides direct supervision, leadership, and mentorship to a team of 5-10 staff working with children and youth with diverse needs, including developmental delays, autism, ADHD, trauma, and high-risk behaviours. The Team Lead ensures service excellence, compliance with CARF accreditation standards, and upholds BrightStar Respite’s trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approach to care.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
- Provide ongoing leadership, supervision, and mentorship to a multidisciplinary team.
- Facilitate team meetings, case conferences, and training sessions.
- Model trauma-informed, culturally respectful, and collaborative approaches to care.
- Monitor team performance, provide feedback, and conduct performance reviews.
- Support staff in crisis situations and ensure safety protocols are followed.
Client & Family Relations
- Maintain regular contact with family members, guardians, and caseworkers.
- Participate in intake, transition, and case review meetings.
- Ensure accurate documentation and reporting in software platforms such as StoryPark and ShiftCare.
- Build trusting relationships with children and youth while maintaining professional boundaries.
Compliance & Program Quality
- Ensure programs meet CARF accreditation standards and internal policies.
- Maintain up-to-date records, reports, and logs as required by funders and agency procedures.
- Conduct audits to ensure compliance with health, safety, and quality assurance standards.
- Participate in ongoing quality improvement and program evaluation initiatives.
Training & Development
- Lead orientation and onboarding for new staff.
- Support ongoing professional development and ensure all team members meet certification and training requirements (e.g., First Aid, Crisis Intervention, Brain Story).
- Stay informed about emerging best practices in trauma-informed care and Indigenous relations.
Administrative & Operational
- Create and maintain staff schedules in collaboration with management.
- Oversee completion of documentation, reports, and client updates in digital platforms.
- Participate in developing and updating agency policies and procedures.
- Manage transportation logistics for youth, including using BrightStar Respite vehicles safely.
- Respond to on-call duties every other weekend as the on-call supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or higher in Human Services, Social Work, Child and Youth Care, or Psychology.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working with children/youth with developmental delays, high behaviours, trauma, Indigenous backgrounds, autism, ADHD, and complex needs.
- At least 1 year of leadership or supervisory experience with a team of 5-10 multidisciplinary members.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean 3-year drivers abstract.
- Current First Aid/CPR Level C certification.
- Knowledge of Indigenous history and intergenerational trauma in Canada; willingness to travel to Northern Alberta Nations.
- Proficient with digital documentation tools such as StoryPark, ShiftCare, and cloud-based communication software (Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, etc.).
- Clear Police Information Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check) and Child Intervention Check completed within the past 6 months.

Pay: $25.33-$28.92 per hour
