**Description**:
Reporting to the Environmental Lead, the Environmental Specialist is a key member of the NexGen Environmental Team, responsible for leading the transition of environmental monitoring and data management activities from contractor-led to internally managed programs. Initially based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan with regular visits to the Rook I site, this role will transition to being fully site-based.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Manage and oversee environmental contractors for programs including but not limited to surface water, air, hydrometrics, groundwater, and wetlands.
- Identify and implement opportunities to transition contractor-conducted environmental monitoring programs in-house, including the development of plans to ensure this is achieved in a controlled and seamless manner (e.g., training, equipment or system needs).
- Support site environmental staff with sample collection, data downloads, and inspections for air, groundwater, and other environmental programs as well as the conduct and coordination of avian risk assessments.
- Assist with geospatial data collection (e.g., LiDAR) and ensure data quality and usability for site planning and environmental tracking.
- Prepare scopes of work for future environmental or geospatial programs where external support is needed.
- Oversee the implementation and evolution of environmental database systems to ensure they support both current monitoring programs and future data integration, including the maintenance of database structure (e.g., station hierarchies) to streamline data entry, retrieval, and reporting.
- Develop and continually improve procedures, work instructions, and other documentation in a manner commensurate with site activities, guiding in-house monitoring efforts to mitigate potential environmental risks.
- Act as an environmental champion on site, supporting monitoring efforts and reinforcing internal environmental culture and practices.
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and accessibility for internal teams and external reporting, including that all data collected is properly validated, stored, and integrated into environmental compliance workflows.
- Support the preparation of annual monitoring reports and regulatory submissions.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Skills, Knowledge and Expertise**:

- Degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Biology, Engineering, Geography, or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of experience in environmental monitoring, field sampling, and contractor oversight in an industrial setting, preferably within the mining industry.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple environmental programs.
- Proficiency in environmental data systems and tools (databases, GIS, Excel, etc.).
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to site and transition to a site-based position.
- Experience developing or administering environmental databases or data management systems.
- Familiarity with Saskatchewan’s environmental regulations and permitting processes.
- Experience working on-site in industrial, mining, or resource development environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead transitions from contractor-supported to internally managed programs.
