The Child and Youth Support Worker provides relief support to clients in the community, in home or in centre through ROCK’s Live in Treatment and Respite Services as needed. This position works collaboratively with clinicians, other care providers and families to support goals and provide stabilization.
Working with children, youth, and caregivers with complex needs, the Child and Youth Support Worker specializes in the implementation of programs in planned environments to promote recreation and skill development using daily life events to facilitate change.
Please note that this is a** one-year contract position, working casual hours.**
**The shifts for this position are but not limited to: (7AM - 3PM), (3PM - 11PM) and (11PM - 7AM) with the department operating 24/7.**
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Ensure a clean, safe, and secure environment, acting as a role model and facilitating the client’s physical, emotional, and intellectual growth and development.
- Implement, monitor, and report on client’s progress towards therapeutic goals/service plan.
- Provide individual and group counselling/support to clients, provide coaching and support to the youth/caregivers and assist in family therapy, as required.
- Assume an advocacy role for clients through ongoing liaising with caregivers and other community agencies.
- Plan and implement recreational and therapeutic activities with and for clients.
- Complete all administrative tasks in a timely fashion as required, for both client and organizational purposes.
- Communicate significant information and developments to other staff members, both verbally and in writing.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the overall program.
- Provide flexible support to service/treatment plans with families in home, in community or in center, depending on the need.
- Within the probationary period, acquire complete knowledge of accepted policies, practices, and procedures and the ability to carry them out.
- Operationalize client safety through adhering to established policies and guidelines that ensure consistency in the delivery of quality and safe care, and by identifying and reporting any client safety incidents.
- Abide by the specific requirements of Section 28 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as any further health and safety responsibilities outlined in the agency’s policy and procedure documents.
- Other duties as may reasonably be assigned.
**Live in treatment specific**:
- Responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the house. Daily chores may be used as a means for engaging clients and teaching life skills, but the responsibility for ensuring chores is completed belongs to the staff.
- Ensure the security of medication, prograM/Food funds, and agency property.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**_ Education_**:
- A minimum of a college diploma in Social Services or equivalent combination of education and experience.
**_ Experience_**:
- Experience in children’s mental health.
- Experience working with children with Autism and/or dual diagnoses is an asset.
**_ Skills_**:
- Ability to work confidently and collaboratively with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sound decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to establish relationships with clients and caregivers that demonstrate self-awareness, appropriate professional boundaries, and a therapeutic impact.
**_ Additional Requirements_**:
- Must obtain and maintain a valid CPR/First Aid certification, UMAB certification, and up to date immunization records
- A current (within three months) criminal reference check with vulnerable sector search.
- Medical statement attesting to one’s physical health to work without restriction and perform UMAB restraints.
- A valid TB skin test is required for this position.
- Available to work flexible hours at varying locations according to program and/or client/caregiver needs.
- Ownership of a reliable vehicle with a valid G driver's license and acceptable current abstract with a minimum of two million dollar liability insurance.
- Proficient in the use of technology as required of the position, including working in a virtual environment with MAC OS operating systems experience preferred.
