Are you a First Nations or Inuit youth between 15 - 30 years of age? As a member of the Library Services Team, you will be on the front lines of student support. This position will introduce a lucky individual with an interest in Indigenous Libraries with the general day-to-day library duties, while having an opportunity to assist with instruction creation for university students. Please note that funding guidelines restrict hiring to First Nations and Inuit youth between 15-30 years, therefore please indicate your adherence to this in your cover letter.
**Duties and Qualifications**:
Customer Service & Communication
Friendly and professional demeanor with the ability to assist students, faculty, and visitors by answering questions, providing directions, and offering support in person or over the phone.
Attention to Detail
Accurate in shelving books, maintaining catalog order (Library of Congress system), and checking materials in and out using library software.
Technology Proficiency
Comfortable using computers, printers, copiers, and library databases. Ability to assist patrons with basic tech issues or digital resources.
Time Management & Organization
Capable of managing multiple tasks efficiently, such as sorting returns, processing new materials, and handling assigned projects within a set schedule.
Confidentiality & Responsibility
Trusted with patron records, overdue materials, and library fines; expected to handle all information with discretion and care.
Teamwork & Initiative
Works well with library staff and fellow student assistants; shows initiative in identifying tasks, solving minor issues, and maintaining a welcoming study environment.
Applicants should be individuals with post secondary education - undergraduate or graduate degree in Indigenous Studies, English or History, and/or experience in libraries and with the Library of Congress call number system
Hours of work for this position can vary but will not exceed 35 hours/week; these hours may include weekend and evening schedules according to Library needs. Salary range is $25 per hour.
Anticipated start date is May 20, 2025, and the contract end date is August 31, 2025
