The Lead Cook will be responsible for the coordination, planning, and preparation of nutritious meals across multiple child care sites (15+), while ensuring compliance with public health regulations, licensing requirements, and program philosophies. This leadership role requires strong organizational skills, bilingual communication, and the ability to support site cooks while maintaining high standards of food quality and safety. **Key Responsibilities** - Plan, revise, and coordinate **nutritious menus** in line with Canada’s Food Guide and Magic Triangle’s philosophy of early learning and care. - Ensure **menu adaptation** to meet dietary restrictions, allergies, cultural and religious needs (e.g., vegetarian, halal, gluten-free). - Prepare and **coordinate food orders and deliveries** across multiple sites in collaboration with local cooks and supervisors. - Supervise and support **kitchen staff and site cooks**, ensuring adherence to safe food handling and sanitation procedures. - Maintain **accurate allergy lists** and communicate clearly with educators and families regarding food safety and menu updates. - Monitor and maintain **inventory, budgeting, and purchasing**, while tracking food and supply costs. - Keep kitchens compliant with health and safety standards, including regular inspections, sanitation schedules, and documentation. - Post **weekly bilingual menus** and track daily meal service records for all sites. - Assist with the preparation of food for **special events** or large-group functions across the organization. - Participate in staff meetings, training, and ongoing professional development. **Qualifications and Skills** **Education & Certifications** - Diploma or post-secondary training in culinary arts or food service (asset) - Must be 18 years of age or older - Valid **Food Handler Certification** (required) - Valid **Standard First Aid and CPR Level C** (or willingness to obtain) - **Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check** (within the last 6 months) - Valid **Ontario G-class driver’s license** and access to a **reliable vehicle** (required) - **Bilingualism (French and English)** is required for effective communication with staff and families **Experience** - Previous experience as a **cook or lead cook in child care, school, or institutional setting** (strong asset) - Knowledge of **CCEYA** and **How Does Learning Happen?** (asset) - Experience with **menu planning**, food ordering, and kitchen supervision preferred **Key Competencies** - Food preparation & menu planning - Budgeting, purchasing, and inventory management - Strong organizational and time management skills - Effective communication (verbal and written, French/English) - Team leadership and coaching abilities - Sanitation and health regulation compliance - Decision making and problem solving - Digital record keeping (Microsoft Office, Google Drive) **Additional Considerations** - Must be physically able to lift up to 45 lbs and perform tasks such as bending, reaching, squatting, and prolonged standing. - Comfortable working in busy, noisy, and child-focused environments. - Occasional travel to program sites within the region is required. **Join Us** As a valued member of Magic Triangle / Triangle Magique, you’ll play a key role in supporting the well-being of children across Northern Ontario.
