**2SLGBTQIA+ Community Outreach Worker**

Location: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia - Hybrid

35 hours/week; $30/hour

**Healthy Minds Cooperative (HMC)**

Healthy Minds Cooperative (HMC) is a community-based, mental health charity offering free services to the public, no referral required. All our staff have first-hand, lived experience in mental health (some, including addiction) and our passion is to help those working on their mental health challenges by offering them a supportive and safe space to connect, grow, and learn. We offer drop-in mental health support groups, wellness workshops and events, peer navigation, and social activities.

**Position Overview**

We are looking for a responsible Community Outreach Worker to assess community interests and needs in order to coordinate programming and services within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and contribute to general HMC programs and services. Specifically, this individual will be responsible for:

- Engaging with community to assess needs and interest for programming and support.
- Supporting a community of practice to learn together and share resources supporting Queer, and 2Spirit mental health and suicide prevention.
- Planning, delivering and evaluating wellness and recovery workshops, information sessions, peer support groups, peer-based social activities, and/or working groups on topics of interest.
- Supporting community members and committees to grow their capacity and lead this work.
- Collaborating with partner organizations to leverage resources for programming and services.
- Upholding administrative practices to support data collection, committee work, project evaluation, reporting, and financial management of projects.

As the Community Outreach Worker you will also perform various coordinating tasks, like scheduling and troubleshooting, along with administrative duties, like maintaining project documentation and responding to inquiries. To succeed in this role, you should have excellent time management and communication skills, as you will collaborate with clients, external stakeholders, and internal teams to deliver results on deadlines.

The Community Outreach Worker’s duties are to ensure that all projects are completed on time, within budget and meet high quality standards.

**Functions & Responsibilities for the Role**

Specific
- Facilitate and foster brave and supportive spaces where people can process, learn, and share their experiences with peers.
- Facilitate peer-led group sessions online/in-person; mix of evenings and day-time sessions as needed.
- Coordinate and support collaboration with internal and external stakeholders using project coordination, communication, and facilitation skills.

General
- Break projects into doable actions and set timeframes;
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to identify and define requirements, scope, and objectives;
- Collaboratively identify and assign tasks to internal/external teams and assist with schedule management;
- Facilitate brave conversations and the processes to support teams over time;
- Make sure that clients’ needs are met as projects evolve;
- Help prepare and monitor budgets, action plans, timelines, statistics, and reports;
- Analyze risks and opportunities;
- Produce communications materials that are relational and professional in appearance;
- Monitor project progress and handle any issues that arise;
- Act as the point of contact and communicate project status to all participants;
- Work with the Executive Director to navigate conflict and resistance;
- Use tools to monitor working hours, plans and expenditures;
- Support the implementation of all appropriate legal paperwork (e.g. contracts and terms of agreement);
- Ensure standards and requirements are met through ongoing testing and evaluation.

**Qualifications**

The Community Outreach Worker will have a combination of knowledge, training, education and/or experience in more than one of the following:

- Mental health and addictions as well as the range of relevant services
- Project coordination and/or events management
- Relational, anti-oppressive, social justice practices
- Facilitation, training, community development and/or evaluation
- Communications

This role requires:

- Strong relationship building, collaborative and interpersonal skills;
- An excellent and supportive communicator who can provide complex messaging in a neutral and non-judgmental manner;
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook, Word & Excel, Teams, and One Drive.
- Capacity to prioritize, plan, effectively delegate and action work on deadline.
- Access to reliable transportation.

**Travel**

The Community Outreach Worker is required to have access to a reliable vehicle to use specifically for the purposes of travelling to and from meetings and events, or procurement.

The Community Outreach Worker is compensated for kilometrage based on the NS Health rates outlined by the Province of Nova Scotia.
