**NATURE & SCOPE**
The YMCA Aquatic Team Leader position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals utilizing aquatic facilities while also facilitating swim instruction programs. This role requires a strong commitment to water safety, exceptional communication skills, and a passion for promoting physical fitness and aquatic skill development.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Provide excellent member service following the Y WAY standards and principles.
- Lifeguard in accordance with YMCA of Niagara Guidelines and Practices, Ontario Health Regulations and TSSA Standards [where applicable].
- To instruct by and follow YMCA Canada Swim Guidelines and Practices.
- Act as a team leader to direct, support and assist other team members in the delivery of excellent member service.
- Work with the Program Coordinator to coach staff and act on poor performance.
- Assess conflict situations and exercises good judgement in recommending solutions.
- Coordinate and manage daily swim lesson rosters, worksheets, progress cards.
- Work towards achieving YMCA Aqua Fit certification.
- Administrative duties associated with instructing and lifeguarding.
- Participate with the children in a positive and supportive manner taking into consideration each child’s uniqueness.
- Participate in training and adhere to the YMCA Child Protection Policies and Procedures as established by the YMCA of Niagara.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Current National Lifeguard Certification
- Current YMCA Swim Instructors and LSS Lifesaving Instructors
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR[C] - must be a certificate that meets the Health Regulations (St. John’s, Red Cross, Life Saving Society or Ski Patrol).
- LSS Bronze Cross Examiners or equivalent is an asset and will be required.
- Experience working in a aquatics environment that offered guarding/instructing opportunities.
- Experience working with children in a recreational setting.
- Upon hiring, applicants 18 years of age and older must submit a clear and satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) issued for the YMCA of Niagara.
- YMCA Aquatic Fitness certification or equivalent is an asset and will be required.
