Created by the Province via the Islands Trust Act, Islands Trust plans and regulates local land use, coordinates with other levels of government and First Nations on key issues impacting the area, and protects land through the Islands Trust Conservancy. **Job Overview** The Planning Technician provides support to Local Trust Committees throughout the Islands Trust Area. Acting under the direction of a Regional Planning Manager (RPM), the Planning Technician is primarily responsible for responding to enquiries and referrals. This position will support all three planning offices. Routine duties may include interaction with administrative staff in all three offices to ensure communication, reporting and facilitation of meetings and events. **Qualifications**: Education and Experience Requirements - Minimum of a two-year diploma in land use planning, geography, urban studies or related field. - At least one-year of recent planning related experience. - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Preference will be given to qualified applicants with any or all of the following: - Experience working in a BC local government planning office. - Experience working with Indigenous communities. - Experience working with rural communities. - Extensive experience with visual communications/graphics (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite). - Demonstrated experience with reviewing building plans **Provisos**: - Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service. - Must be willing to work overtime, including some evenings and weekends. - Some travel and overnight travel is a requirement of this position, including by ferry and water taxi. - Possession and maintenance of a Class 5 BC Driver’s License. **About this Position**: An eligibility list may be established for future temporary or permanent full time or part time opportunities.
