Job DescriptionThis position is part of the “BC SAF HAVN” program (BC Services and Assistance for Humanitarian and Vulnerable Newcomers). BC SAF HAVN provides wraparound services to support the social and economic integration of Refugee Claimants not eligible to receive services under federal settlement programs. BC SAF HAVN services are intended to wrap around the client in a way that supports them in all aspects of their initial settlement needs, including access to food and housing, community orientation, navigating immigration and legal processes, authorization to work, and mental health support.

In the role of Career Advisor, you will empower newcomer clients by providing resources and education during the pre-employment and employment stages; equipping them with the necessary tools and skills to overcome barriers and achieve financial independence for their families. You will also support clients in navigating WorkBC, and all YWCA and SUCCESSS employment programs and services. In addition to navigating community resources.

This position is a YWCA role working in partnership with SUCCESS in the Tri-Cities region.

**What you’ll be doing**:

- Conduct employment needs assessments for self-identifying newcomer women, eligible under the BC SAF HAVN program.; develop individualized action plans, and provides referrals to programs
- Provide employment counseling, job market exploration, workplace rights information, and connections to local employers and mentors.
- One-to-one employment counselling sessions relevant to the individual's education and work experience
- Assist with resumes and cover letters
- Provide short-term pre-employment training and referrals to relevant employment training programs.
- Navigate programs and services in the community relevant for newcomer women
- Conduct group information sessions and workshops in-person and online
- Assist clients in accessing government, community, and employment networks, as well as services and programs
- Develop partnerships with service providers to effectively link clients with appropriate community services
- Work closely with YWCA Metro Vancouver Employment Navigator team, referring clients who are single mothers to relevant workshops and 1-1 meetings with the EN team, and participating in events.
- Keep informed of programs and services at SUCCESS, Tri-Cities area, and YWCA Metro Vancouver.
- Keep informed of current resources, trends, needs, changes, and service gaps for newcomer women to Canada
- Perform program promotion and marketing activities
- Measure and report monthly outcomes, collect client testimonials, and conduct other administrative tasks as required
- Research and refer clients to volunteer and networking opportunities
- Organize yearly celebratory events for clients
- Other duties as required

**What you’ll need**:

- Bachelor's degree in social or human sciences or a related discipline
- 3+ years of experience in client service delivery
- Knowledge of BC settlement, immigration information, and local community resources
- Experience in working with refugee claimants, refugees, and other humanitarian migrants
- Understanding of issues facing newcomer women to Canada
- Cultural sensitivity and understanding of diverse backgrounds in the clients
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships among multiple stakeholders
- Strong writing skills, verbal communication skills and ability to effectively support program reports as required.
- Ability to design, promote, deliver, and facilitate workshops
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PPT), Teams, and Zoom and the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies required for excellent service delivery as needed
- Able to identify barriers to services to promote equity and inclusion for a diverse client population
- Act with integrity in personal and organizational practices. Build a respectful and client-centered workplace.
- Ability to foster open communication, listen to others, speak effectively, and prepare written communication so that messages are clearly understood.
- Demonstrate strong organization skills by planning and working in a systematic and organized way. Ability to follow directions and procedures and ensure deliverables are met on time and according to agreed standards.
- Passion for the job and serving newcomer women. Ability to engage with clients, staff and community partners in developing goals, executing plans, and in delivering results.
- A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.
- The YWCA Metro Vancouver’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination from COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the YWCA deem it necessary to reintroduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
