**Working for the Residence Life and Education**
Residence Life and Education at the University of Alberta is a leading program in Canada, dedicated to the principles of dignity, respect, safety, equity, learning, and community. This program creates caring, student-focused residential environments that help students achieve academic success, learn to live respectfully with diverse groups, develop leadership skills, and foster a sense of community responsibility. The University of Alberta residence program accommodates and supports up to 5,200 students across three campuses. The Residence Life and Education team recruits, trains, and supports 190 student staff members who live and work in the residence communities.
**Position Summary**
Reporting to the Supervisor, Augustana Residence Life, the Student Experience Coordinator (SEC) - On Campus Living plays a key role in supporting the student-focused operation of the Residence Life Program on the Augustana Campus.
**Duties**
- Design and implement student programming by and for on-campus students. (Budgeting, planning, evaluation) in partnership with the Supervisor - Augustana Residence Life (SARL), Residence Services and other stakeholders within the institution.
- In consultation with the Supervisor, Augustana Residence Life (SARL), Manager, Residence Life and Education (MRLE) and other stakeholders within the institution, the Student Experience Coordinator, On-Campus Living supports the institutional commitment to ensuring access, fostering community connections and increasing belonging. Its work is rooted in mutuality, reciprocity, responsibility and interdependence while honouring Indigenous identities, languages, cultures and world views.
- Create and maintain a welcoming, inclusive and safe environment within all Augustana campus housing facilities. This is facilitated by maintaining a visible presence in the residence community, role modelling appropriate behaviours, and addressing any concerns or situations (e.g. noise, vandalism, fire alarms, community disruptions, etc.) that may arise.
- Provides overall management of day to day community management activities and the residence conduct process, including: addressing behaviour contrary to the Residence Community Standards Policy (e.g. noise complaints, conflicts between roommates, etc.) by listening to all perspectives and developing resolutions with students that repair identified harms, managing records of student conduct issues, conducting investigations as needed, making decisions to the outcome of incidents, and writing decision letters to communicate those decisions.
- Assist with the design and implementation of a student staff model for on-campus student support.
- Select, train and support their designated casual student staff. This component is critical given the entry-level nature of the student staff paraprofessional role and the guidance required. This includes providing overarching HR support, coaching, guidance and directing student staff to address conduct concerns when appropriate.
- Meet with students of concern (e.g., inappropriate drinking behaviours, suicidal ideation, problems integrating socially, academic risk) to help coordinate support plans with appropriate campus services (e.g., Academic Success Centre, Counselling and Clinical Services, University of Alberta Protective Services) to ensure that students succeed. Assist with wellness checks of students living on campus as required.
