General Helper

Procor Limited manages Canada’s largest private tank car lease fleet and operates an extensive repair network across the country. The fleet has grown to include more than 30,500 special purpose tank and freight cars. Procor also operates 27 repair locations servicing the petroleum, petrochemicals, plastics, chemicals, fertilizers and food markets.

The normal hours of work will be Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Please be advised that schedules may change as business requirements dictate.

The starting hourly rate for this role is $ 20.40.

Essential Responsibilities:

- Follow all safety rules and procedures set by the company.
- Cleaning commodity from the interior and/or exterior of tank and hopper cars i.e. vegetable oil, asphalt/bunker, Sulphur, grain, potash, etc.
- General yard housekeeping.
- Shop and Paint line clean up i.e. washroom, storage racks, filter change outs, pits, etc.
- Cutting scrap metal.
- Grinding on railcars.
- Responsible for man down/man watch responsibilities.
- Pressure washing/labeling of commodity barrels.
- Assist other team members as necessary to complete varies shop duties.
- Comply with company and regulatory safety and environmental standards.
- Meet production schedules.
- Appropriately wear and utilize all of the following types of safety equipment in accordance with EHS instruction and requirements: Respirators (full and half face), hearing protection, eye protection, steel toed boots, and fall protection.
- Other related responsibilities as assigned.

All duties indicated above are not General Helper specific and will be performed by all shop employees.

Minimum Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements:

- Must be mechanically inclined and able to operate the needed tools for the position.
- Must be able to read and understand written work orders and material safety data sheets.
- Must be able to work in an environment with continuous exposure to outdoor weather conditions with dust, fumes, and noise. Must be able to climb, stoop, and bend repeatedly, carry hand and power tools.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces and heights of 15 feet.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must pass company physical including pulmonary function, chest and back x-rays.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and eligible to work in Canada.
- Willingness to comply with pre-employment screening, reference verification, and background check.

Preferred:

- High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
- Previous Helper experience an asset.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in a shop or yard where moving mechanical parts are present.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing protection is required.

Welding skills and WHMIS training would be an asset. Effective communication and organizational skills, strong initiative, and ability to work well under pressure are also desirable.
