This is a hybrid work position in Calgary Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) 3 days per week. This provides flexibility the remaining 40% of the work week. This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration and networking with our colleagues. Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.

**Overview of the role**
The Digital Enablement team aims to unlock the value of data at every level of the enterprise by providing access to trusted, timely data through an optimized technology stack that enables digital transformation and accelerates data-driven decision making.
We are looking for a Data Specialist to join our team reporting to the Senior Manager of Data Products to join us in delivering this vision. The Data Specialist role uses a variety of soft skills, technical skills, and industry knowledge to provide the most efficient and comprehensive support and direction for data product design and development.

**Key deliverables / responsibilities include**
- Design, implement and support scalable data solutions and data products.
- Produce detailed designs and document work using required standards, methods, and tools, including prototyping where appropriate.
- Take ownership of problems and proactively resolve technical problems, ensuring that technical solutions continue to meet business requirements and have the know how to take full accountability for actions taken and decisions made.
- Work with other disciplines to understand what needs to be built.
- Coordinate product design and development activities across product delivery pod.
- Involved in identifying appropriate technology and approaches.
- Find ways to improve data products through enhancements and opportunities for automation.
- Understanding of overall architecture of data products and technologies supported and how to identify and troubleshoot challenges within, provides insights and expertise where required.
- Provides definitive and expert advice in their specialist area.
- Actively maintains recognized expert level knowledge in on or more identifiable specialisms.
- Oversees the provision of specialist advice by others.
- Consolidates expertise from multiple sources, including third-party experts, to provide coherent advice to further organizational objectives.
- Supports and promotes the development and sharing of knowledge within the organization.
- Collaborates with others to ensure advice is appropriate to the organizational needs.
- Monitors the external environment to gather intelligence on emerging technologies.
- Provide technical and data expertise leadership, coach, teach and mentor Analyst group within the team.
- Promote knowledge sharing and adoption of best practices Leads workshops, presentations, and training that provide skill and knowledge development for the team.
- Leads reviews of own work and reviews of colleagues' work.
- Work across teams to ensure the supportability of new data products and to provide timely support and fixes.
- Engage in meaningful interactions and relationships with users and can manage competing priorities.
**Experience and qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics or related field.
- 10+ years of working experience within an Enterprise environment.
- Deep technical knowledge with 5+ years of Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence experience in an agile environment.
- Proficient in collaborating with others when necessary to review specifications and can use these agreed specifications to design, code, test and document programs or scripts of medium to high complexity, using the right standards and tools.
- Broad understanding of information security and can design solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered as mitigation against security threats as a core part of the solutions and services.
- Expertise in reviewing the systems designs of others to ensure the selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources and integration of multiple systems and technology.
