Reporting to the Manager, Investment Performance Analytics & Reporting, works as a member of the Investment Operations and Applications team in providing internal and external clients investment reporting and analysis for the fund. Using and maintaining the performance analytics system, the data warehouse and other analytics tools, the position is responsible for preparing and analyzing daily the performance of portfolios and the consolidated fund. Reporting produced includes performance and attribution reports, risk and exposure reports, and internal and external compliance reports across various entity, asset class, and individual programs that comprise the fund. The reporting and analysis seeks to decompose the various factors and characteristics of the fund that contributed to the overall results for given time periods.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure that data for the performance measurement and risk systems is collected, input, balanced and reconciled in an efficient manner and any issues arising from the processes are either resolved or escalated as required
Calculate performance results and attribution factors at a Total Fund level and individual mandate or investment level
Calculate exposure reporting at a Total Fund level and individual mandate or investment level
Produce risk reporting including VAR and other risk measures, both ex post and ex ante, for individual portfolios and on a consolidated Total Fund basis
Produce strategy level performance and risk reporting for portfolio managers used in evaluating investment decisions
Monitor portfolio compliance against defined internal policies and external regulatory policies
Ensure that all reporting deadlines are met on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
Recommend and implement continuous improvements to the efficiency, timing and reliability of reporting processes
Develop an ongoing working relationship with Investment Division personnel to understand new product developments, strategies, and investing styles and other activities, as they pertain to performance measurement and risk reporting
Meet with the Investment Division fund managers to gather requirements for further report development and analysis. Using internal investment systems, develop and test performance, attribution, exposure, and risk reports based on client requirements
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards in the performance reporting field (GIPS)
Provide comprehensive reports and analysis on performance results and their contributing factors to clients in a timely fashion
Assist in the development and construction of custom benchmarks
Maintain, document and structure composites
Co-ordinate with other investment support areas to ensure inputs for reporting are received and are accurate as required and to understand any issues on valuation, accounting etc. which may impact reports
Add value to the Investment processes at OMERS by providing in-depth analysis and ad hoc reporting to the Fund Managers
Participate in projects as required
Communicate reporting issues and changes in requirements to Investment Finance management together with alternatives and recommended action plans
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all staff involved in investment activities at OMERS and act in a manner consistent with OMERS core values
QUALIFICATIONS
3-5 years of experience in a financial institution at the Analyst level assembling and delivering financial information related to performance and risk of investment products
An understanding of investment performance and attribution, risk and financial reporting issues
An understanding of investment products used in capital markets including bonds, equities and derivatives products
University degree in Business, Math or related discipline; (C.A., C.G.A., or C.M.A.) would be an asset, holds or is working towards a C.F.A or CIPM designation is required
Demonstrated ability to perform complex analysis and manage/resolve issues
Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process enhancements to ensure that activities are completed in an efficient manner and add value
Strong ability to use automated reporting systems, including strong skills in excel
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work as part of a team, with strong written and verbal communication skills
