**Certified Dental Assistant**
**(4) Contract Full-time; Duration of Thirteen (13) Months**
**Health Service - Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention**
The Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) works in collaboration with oral health team members including the Registered Dental Hygienist to deliver oral health programs in Peel as mandated by the Ministry of Health and the Region of Peel.
**What you will do**:
- Follow guidelines provided by the Region of Peel, Ministry of Health, and other regulatory bodies
- Assess eligibility for oral health programs
- Assist with case management and support client follow up
- Assist in delivery of preventive and treatment services to clients
- Provide navigational supports and assistance to clients in the Healthy Smiles Ontario program and Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program.
- Problem solves in collaboration with Registered Dental Hygienist and Supervisor
- Provide client focused individualized care including oral hygiene instruction
- Provide dental care in the scope of a Level II CDA as permitted
- Complete required program documentation
- Triage client needs
- Process dental claims and reconcile invoices
- Maintain client confidentiality
- Prepare, set up and turn over operatories
- Provide reception at clinics including greeting clients, supporting office flow, booking and confirming client appointments
- Answer telephone enquiries from residents as well as community partners such as dental offices and schools
- Set up and take down portable dental equipment
- Maintain equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and program guidelines
- Reprocessing of dental instruments and maintenance of dental operatories according to current infection prevention and control standards
- Develop and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with internal and external parties
- Respect issues of diversity, ethnicity, language and culture
- Perform data entry
- Use of personal vehicle daily to transport dental instruments
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
**What the role requires**:
Educational Background/Must Haves/Bonafide Job Requirements:
- Level ll Certified Dental Assistant in good standing with the Ontario Dental Assistant’s Association
- A minimum of two (2) years clinical experience (full time equivalent)
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered
- Knowledge of and/or experience in public health would be an asset
- Knowledge of technical and professional procedures and standards regarding dental practices in Ontario
- Knowledge and competence in infection prevention and control
- Knowledge of the Ontario Dental Association (ODA) procedure codes
- CPR certification
- Possess a valid ‘G’ driver’s license with the ability to travel to various regional locations on a day-to-day basis
- Ability to lift up to 10 kilograms
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong customer service skills as well as excellent interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills
- Well developed and proven written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment
- Computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office
- Competency in data entry
- Exceptional time management, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to adapt to a changing work environment
Nice to haves but not required:
- Knowledge of the Oral Health Information and Support System (OHISS) an asset
- Multilingualism would be considered an asset
- Ability to upgrade to a D class driver’s license would be considered an asset
**Location**: 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga and 150 Central Park Drive Dental Clinic; various travel through out the Region of Peel
**Hours of work**: 35 hours per week; Monday through Friday, days, evenings, weekends
