**Job Summary**:
Reporting to the Director Environmental Health, the Manager Environmental Health is responsible for providing technical expertise and administrative collaboration necessary to ensure effective and efficient delivery of a preventive community health and sanitation programs, and institutional, healthy environment and emergency response programs as required under government legislation and current standards of practice.

**Education**:

- Post-secondary degree in Environmental Health or related discipline.
- A Masters degree with a focus in Administrative studies is preferred.

**Knowledge**:

- 5 years experience in public health inspection.
- Knowledge of research techniques and strategies, data analysis, and Total Quality Management principles.
- A minimum of 3 years supervisory and administrative experience is preferred.
- Certification by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.
- Membership in Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.
- Membership in Association of Supervisors of Public Health Inspectors of Ontario.
- Provincial Offences Officer

**Responsibilities**:
**_ Establishes divisional goals, objectives and assignments to ensure effective and efficient delivery of preventive community health, institutional health, environmental health, sanitation, health hazard abatement, emergency response and emergency management programs._**:

- Responds to requests and complaints from the general public, elected officials, media, health agencies, veterinarians, physicians, appointed municipal representatives, regional, provincial and federal officials and other interest groups related to community health, sanitation and environmental matters.
- Ensures public awareness of hygiene standards through use of the media and educational programs related to community health, sanitation and environmental matters.
- Organizes and evaluates emergency response plans to ensure proper preparation is incorporated into existing emergency plans in the Public Health Department, reviewing the emergency response plans for appropriateness annually.
- Invokes seizure of goods, closure of premises and/or quarantine of animals as required.
- Supervises the investigation of all food and water-borne disease outbreaks, environmental and infectious disease outbreaks, analyzing sample data to detect causes and take actions to prevent additional cases where possible and preparing reports for submission.
- Provides counsel, guidance and technical supervision to divisional staff in matters related to community health, sanitation and environmental issues, institutional services including issuing of Community Health Protection Orders.
- Prepares and presents reports to the Public Health and Social Services Committee as necessary.
- Provides counsel and guidance to divisional staff in legal matters including the issuance of tickets, summonses, giving evidence in courts and tribunals and assisting with appeals of Community Health Protection Orders.
- Appears as an expert witness at court proceedings for the enforcement of Acts, Regulations and By-laws as required.
