**JOB SUMMARY**
The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, implementing and overseeing the effective operations of the Sanitation Department. The Sanitation Supervisor establishes, validates and enforces programs, company rules and policies and ensures that proper sanitation procedures are followed. The Sanitation Supervisor has the responsibility of ensuring that Plant Sanitation levels meet all regulatory and in-house standards by providing strong leadership and operating expertise to employees.
This role requires an individual with strong leadership, attention to detail, and expertise in cleaning protocols within the food production industry. The Sanitation Supervisor reports directly to the Quality Assurance Manager. In the absence of the Quality Assurance Manager the Sanitation Supervisor reports directly to the General Manager.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
Supervise and lead a team of sanitation workers to ensure all cleaning procedures are completed efficiently and according to schedule.
- Create, maintain and update sanitation procedures, schedules, checklists, approved sanitation chemicals list, and other documentation in line with industry best practices.
- Maintain all documentation, prepare reports on sanitation performance and provide recommendations for improvements to management.
- Plan and execute schedules (e.g. personnel hours and duties, MSCS)
- Ensure the facility, equipment, and work areas are cleaned and sanitized as per the SSOP and MCS.
- Participate in regular audits and inspections of the facility to verify cleanliness and identify areas for improvement. Also, represent the sanitation program in Internal and External Audits.
- Ensure all hourly employees are fully trained and follow all GMP rules and in-house Quality and Consumer safety standards using HACCP as the main control tool.
- Provide training and technical support to employees (e.g. sanitation procedures, WHMIS, personal safety), and evaluate sanitation employee’s performance to ensure they understand and adhere to proper cleaning methods and safety protocols.
- Coordinate with Production and Maintenance teams to ensure mínimal disruption to operations while performing sanitation tasks.
- Monitor and manage sanitation supplies inventory, ensure cleaning materials and equipment are adequately stocked and maintained, and employees are equipped with the necessary tools to perform their jobs correctly and efficiently.
- Participate in and facilitate the company’s continuous improvement activities.
- Continue to develop and improve the effectiveness of the plant sanitation process
- Stay updated on the latest trends in sanitation and food safety practices and proactively implement relevant improvements.
- Support the sanitation team in cleaning and performing sanitation tasks as required.
- Ensure effective cleaning verification by performing ATP swabbing.
**JOB REQUIREMENTS**
- Available to work on shifts with flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as per the requirements of the job.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Post-secondary education in Food Safety, Sanitation, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in sanitation or a similar role within a food production or bakery environment.
- Strong understanding of food safety regulations, sanitation protocols, Knowledge of WHMIS, GMPs, Health & Safety, and industry standards (e.g., HACCP, CFIA).
- Proven leadership abilities with experience managing and training teams.
- Ability to work independently, with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, as required.
**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**
- Able to stand for long periods of time at production equipment and walk throughout plant to monitor various departments throughout each shift.
