Environmental Technician Summer Student

Northback is a Canadian company focused on the development of the Grassy Mountain steelmaking coal project in Crowsnest Pass, Alberta. We are seeking a summer student to join our Safety, Health & Environment department for the 2025 summer field season. This 40-hour/week position reports to the Environment Coordinator. **Employment Term: April 28 to August 29, 2025**

**_SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES_**
- Environmental Monitoring - collecting and processing environmental data including surface water measurements, water quality samples, wildlife photos, and vegetation surveys.
- Environmental Site Assessments - supporting field staff and contractors with environmental surveys and site inspections.
- Environmental Field Work - invasive weed identification and eradication, native seed collection, planting, and other outdoor field work as weather permits.
- Data Entry - uploading environmental information into our company database.
- General Field Support - logístical planning for field programs, fleet care and maintenance, assisting with field tours, and other duties as required.

**_ QUALIFICATIONS_**
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary education program relating to environmental science.
- Safety-focused and willing to actively participate in company safety programs.
- Must be competent in the safe operation of pickup trucks, utility trailers, and off-highway vehicles.
- Valid first aid and other safety certifications are considered an asset.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and should have experience using GPS and other digital devices.
- Good organizational and time management skills to complete tasks with mínimal supervision.

**_ REQUIREMENTS_**
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
- Able to lift 25 kg safely and work in the field under various weather conditions for extended periods of time.
- ** Pre-employment Drug Test**: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired.
