Under the general direction of the Independent Power & Renewable Gas Strategies Section Head, the Independent Power Officer
will be responsible for leading the evaluation, negotiation, implementation and administration of long-term power purchase
agreements for new and existing independent generation customers. Will be responsible to develop and enhance customer
relationships with key industry stakeholders and strategic partners while staying informed on market and technology developments
in the independent power industry. Responsible for creating and collaborating with a cross enterprise team to develop, maintain,
coordinate, and advance independent strategies and initiatives. These strategies will be in line with the Provincial Energy Strategy,
support provincial economic development and align with the enterprise's Integrated Resource Plan and Strategy 2040.

**_ Responsibilities:_**
- Lead the negotiation of proposed long-term utility-scale independent power generation power purchase contracts with a broad

range of new energy entrants for a variety of renewable and carbon neutral technologies (e.g., wind, solar, battery, etc.) that
are in the best interests of Manitoba Hydro.
- Conduct detailed evaluations for the growing number of proposed independent power projects including financial and

energy system.
- Prepare pricing recommendations, executive recommendations, briefing notes and other executive reports as requested

including presenting to senior management and executive.
- Conduct financial risk analysis of proposed contracts under various scenarios and sensitivities.
- Develop and advance strategies associated with preferred siting and non-wires alternatives to match new or existing load with

new generation projects as an agile approach to promote economic development and assist in customer decarbonization
efforts.
- Develop, issue, and evaluate future renewable RFPs as required, in alignment with future approved IRPs to procure

necessary supply to meet increasing domestic demand.
- Maintain an independent power generation customer database and develop reports as necessary.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with existing independent power generation customers and a wide range of new
- energy entrants including Indigenous communities, commercial developers, and rural municipalities.- Project manage the progression of independent power projects from preliminary discussions to commercial operation.
- Keep abreast of the evolving carbon neutral and renewable energy landscape and represent Manitoba Hydro at tradeshows,
- conferences, and industry groups.- Engage with external stakeholders, key industry partners and government entities to leverage available funding and advance
- Manitoba Hydro's understanding of new technologies or markets.- Ongoing management of the growing number of decentralized independent power projects including the St. Leon Wind PPAs,

St. Joseph Wind PPA, Fisher River Cree Nation Solar PPA, Northlands Dene First Nation Solar PPA, and the Tundra Oil &
Gas Load Displacement Agreement to ensure operational issues are addressed and contract obligations are met.
- Collaborate closely with the Internal Resource Planning, Indigenous & Community Relations, Legal, Customer Billing, Energy

Markets Accounting, Customer Strategy & Experience, Enterprise Risk Management, and Sales/Mktg & Product

**_ Qualifications:_**
- Completion of a four-year bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant discipline from an institute of

recognized standing with a minimum of seven years of experience leading strategy development.

- Demonstrated understanding of energy contracts and experience negotiating and drafting complex agreements with strategic
