**Head of Translational Medicine Oncology Drug Project Management**
**Location: Gaithersburg, MD and Waltham, MA**
The TM Oncology Drug Project Management group within Translational Medicine Oncology is accountable for providing project and portfolio management to the AZ TM Oncology portfolio to ensure successful delivery of Translational projects from initiation of TM strategy development to delivery of data and results to the GPT. Furthermore, this group is responsible for driving continuous improvement processes, for providing accurate Translational Medicine portfolio information for decision making and business reporting, and for capacity and resource management.
The Head of TM Oncology Drug Project Management will be accountable for the effective project management of a prioritised portfolio of Oncology projects across Early and Late, and will work across several cross-functional project/ programme teams to ensure the TM strategy is delivered within agreed time, budget and quality. To achieve this, the Head of TM Oncology Drug Project Management will ensure best practice and consistent ways of working (as a key member of the TM Oncology Global Operations Team), and provide hands on project management.
The role depends on close collaboration with TM Biomarker Operations Group, the TM Strategy Leads, GPPM, and Finance. The Head of TM Oncology Drug Project Management will be responsible for building and managing a Project Management team within TM Oncology to adapt and grow with the growing Oncology portfolio.
**Accountabilities/Responsibilities**:
- Accountable for the effective TM drug project management across the Oncology portfolio
- Ensures Translational project plans are aligned with drug development timelines
- Defines best practice and ensures a consistent approach to project planning, and delivery - to achieve project management excellence
- Manages and coaches other TM project management team members to ensure efficient & consistent support across all projects
- Prepares financial project reports to assess progress, enable resource prioritisation, identify synergies, align risks/ mitigations
- Hands on project management of multiple complex projects to deliver to time, cost and quality
- Creates and manages project plans to track and drive delivery of major milestones
- Manages project costs aligned to investment decisions, and FTE resources aligned to project needs/ forecast demand
- Creates progress reports to track delivery to time, cost and quality
- Accountable for ensuring TM project information and costs are accurate within AZ’s enterprise planning tool (PLANIT, Planisware)
- Manages and coaches other TM project management team members to ensure accuracy of project/portfolio information
- Accountable for evaluating the TM project management team resourcing model; building a business case for more support and additional roles where needed
- Line manages and coaches junior members to ensure best practices
**Minimum Requirements -Education and Experience**
**Education**:
**Minimum Experience Required**
- Professional project management qualification (e.g. PMP)
- Expert understanding of Project Management techniques, tools and principles
- Extensive experience in scientific project management within a pharmaceutical or clinical background
- Thorough knowledge of drug and/or diagnostic development processes
- Experience of global team-working and effectively communicating with key stakeholders
- A professional, enthusiastic and proactive approach, with the ability to independently manage a diverse and demanding workload
**Preferred Experience**
- High-level understanding and interest in Translational Medicine
- Expert reputation within the business and industry
- Experience of using PLANIT (Planisware)
**Measure of Success**
- TM project plans/ reports inform strategic decision making, prioritisation business reporting for continues investment into Translational Medicine
- Translational projects are delivered to cost, time and quality objectives
- Project excellence including consistent tools/ templates are established within project teams and recognised as best practice by GPT members
- Successful collaboration and close working relationships with TMLs, GPPM, Finance
- Accurate TM cost and resource information within enterprise planning tool (PLANIT)
