Concrete Placer

The **concrete placer**, under the direction of the Superintendent and Foreman, is responsible for the accurate placement and initial levelling of concrete on commercial/institutional construction projects. They work closely with the concrete finishers and other crew members to ensure a high-quality final product that meets design specifications and project requirements.
**Qualifications**
- Understands and adheres to all safety policies and procedures
- Able to work with concrete placement tools and follow job specifications
- Basic understanding of concrete properties and curing practices
- Punctual and reliable with a strong work ethic
- Willingness to take direction and work as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship
- Willing to work out of town if/when required
**Preferred Skills**
- Experience working with concrete pumps or placing booms
- Familiarity with rebar and mesh installation
- Ability to read grades or use laser levels
**Licenses**
- Valid driver’s license or reliable transportation to job sites
- Able to obtain security clearances if required for project
**Experience**
- One to three (1 - 3) years’ experience in concrete placement or general construction
**Functional Responsibilities**
- Observe and comply with all health and safety regulations, following safe work practices and procedures at all times
- Assist in preparing job sites by setting up and securing forms for curbs, sidewalks, and slabs
- Safely and accurately place concrete using chutes, pumps, wheelbarrows, or buggies
- Distribute and level freshly poured concrete using shovels, rakes, and screeds
- Ensure proper compaction and elimination of air pockets within the concrete
- Help monitor and maintain appropriate concrete slump and consistency
- Support finishers by ensuring concrete is evenly distributed and ready for finishing
- Fill edges and holes with hand magnesium trowels, seal up surfaces using steel trowels
- Clean and maintain concrete tools and equipment
- Learn and participate in Lean practices and processes, with the goal of continual improvement and reduction of waste
**Working Conditions**
- Construction environment (regularly working near moving mechanical parts/equipment and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, exposure to dust, asphalt, and noise)
- Working with various tools and construction materials
- Lifting, pulling or pushing, carrying, and manipulating objects of up to 50 lbs
- Walking and standing for long periods of time
- Bending, crouching, and crawling
- Climbing ladders and working at heights
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required (e.g. hard hat, safety boots, etc.)
- Additional hazards associated with the construction industry
- Driving a company vehicle and/or operating equipment
