Corporate Finance is a division of Finance, committed to maximizing the value of financial planning with a fixed control on long term financial strategic viewpoints and execution for the Region of Peel.
Financial Policy and Development is responsible for the management of the Regional development charges and property tax programs and coordinating corporate fiscal policy and infrastructure funding programs.
As the Financial Analyst, you will perform complex and routine analysis in support of the Taxation team and their clients, present results of analysis and research to Senior Financial Analyst, Supervisor, and Client Groups and educate client groups on routine process issues.
In this role you will provide analytical and reporting support for the Financial Policy and Taxation function within the Region of Peel including property tax administration and related analysis, and compliance with legislative requirements and corporate standards. Prepare recurring and ad-hoc reports for Senior Financial Analyst teams, management and Council, and reconcile capital projects to ensure that the correct accounting entries have been made (with correcting journal if not). Process accruals and other accounting functions as directed by the Supervisor of Financial Policy and Taxation, and Senior Financial Analyst's (based on your own, and/or Supervisor prioritization).
**What you will do in this role**:
- Provide analytical support in ongoing activities related to the Region’s property taxation and assessment
- Perform routine and ad-hoc research and analysis on behalf of clients and Senior Financial Analyst
- Present findings of research and recommendations to Supervisor, Senior Financial Analyst and Client groups/management teams
- Provide recommendations on process improvements to Senior Financial Analyst, Supervisor, and management team
- Take on coordination of aspects of budget coordination, reporting coordination and tax policy projects as assigned by Supervisor
- Assist Senior Financial Analyst’s in their day to day functions to ensure that clients are provided with the best possible service from Taxation
- Liaise with Financial Analyst’s from other sections within Financial Policy and Development Financing and Corporate Finance to enable a consistent approach to reporting and coordination of activities and services provided to clients
- Invoice generation, data entry, resolving minor process issues with departmental staff through coordination of routine data and analysis for the purposes of assisting with formulation of recomendations by Supervisor, data and report generation
- Assist with the preparation of analysis and comments for the Triannual Dashboard and Scorecard updates
- Support administration of the Region’s other revenue and funding related programs such as Canada Community-Building Fund Program and Provincial Gas Tax Program
- Periodic reporting and accounting duties including journal entries, reconciliations, and data compilation
- Account reconciliation (analyse and raise issues with Supervisor/Senior Financial Analyst)
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Financial Policy and Taxation
**What the role requires**:
- Post-secondary education in a finance or accounting field
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, particularly in municipal finance. A combination of education and experience may be considered
- Demonstrated experience in property assessment and taxation in Ontario
- Knowledge of the Assessment Act and the Municipal Act
- Proven sound understanding and experience with financial and/or taxation modeling

**Nice to have**:
- Completion of the Municipal Tax Administration Program (MTAP) offered by Ontario Municipal Tax and Revenue Association (OMTRA) is considered an asset
- Familiarity with Online Property Tax Analysis (OPTA) an asset
