**Title: Part-Time Controller**
**Hours of Work**: 15.0 hours per week
**Compensation**:$45.00/per hr. - $50.00/per hr.
Paid time off between Christmas and New Year, Day off on birthdays, contribution towards training/wellness.

**Society Profile**:
Seniors Services Society is a non-profit charity located in New Westminster, BC which
provides support services for seniors in New Westminster to live independently, as well as housing information and navigation services across BC and outreach services for seniors in the Lower Mainland.
**Purpose**:
Within the vision and mission statements of the Society, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), theControllerwill be responsible for maintaining accurate and current accounting of all Society funds, consistent with generally accepted accounting principles.
**Position Overview**
SSSBC seeks a part-time accountant to oversee grant compliance, bookkeeping, payroll, and accounts for smooth operational finances. The role involves managing and supporting the finance team, regular communication with the CEO and Managers on program/project finances, adhering to tax and non-profit regulations with attention to detail.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Technical Accounting Expertise**
- Proficiency in nonprofit accounting standards, including fund accounting, restricted vs. unrestricted funds, and CRA compliance for Canadian charities (or IRS for U.S.based ones).
- Advanced knowledge of financial systems and tools (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or other relevant accounting software).
**Budgeting and Financial Planning**
- Ability to create and manage annual budgets, aligning them with strategic objectives.
- Scenario planning to forecast cash flows and funding needs.
**Regulatory Compliance and Reporting**
- Knowledge of CRA/IRS regulations, financial reporting requirements, and charity audits.
- Ability to oversee timely filing of T3010 or Form 990, as well as grant reporting compliance.
**Strategic Financial Oversight**
- Capacity to link financial data to programmatic outcomes, assisting leadership in decision-making.
- Advising on financial risks and sustainability strategies.
**Stakeholder Communication**
- Presenting complex financial data in a simplified manner to board members, funders, and senior leadership.
- Transparency and clarity in financial reporting.
**Team Collaboration**
- Working closely with program managers, fund development teams, and senior leadership to align budgets with operational needs.
- Coaching team members in financial literacy to improve organizational capacity.
**Adaptability and Efficiency**
- Prioritizing tasks in a part-time role while ensuring no disruption in financial operations.
- Implementing systems for streamlined reporting and data accuracy.
**Leadership and Mentorship**
- Ability to inspire, guide, and develop direct reports to enhance their financial skills and confidence.
- Leading by example to foster a collaborative and accountable work environment.
**Delegation and Workload Management**
- Delegating tasks effectively to ensure timely completion of financial operations.
- Balancing hands-on involvement with oversight to empower staff while maintaining accountability.
**Performance Management**
- Conducting regular check-ins and performance reviews to provide constructive feedback.
- Setting clear goals and expectations for staff, aligned with organizationalpriorities.
**Training and Development**
1. Identifying skill gaps in the team and providing or facilitating relevant training opportunities.
2. Coaching staff on nonprofit-specific financial practices, such as grant compliance and fund tracking.
**Conflict Resolution and Team Dynamics**
3. Addressing any workplace challenges with tact and professionalism.
4. Ensuring open communication within the team to maintain a positive and productive work culture.

**Qualifications**:
- CPA with 3+ years of experience in a similar role
- Familiarity with Not-for-Profit accounting standards
- Familiarity with international accounting is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct accounting or tax research as necessary.
- Sound knowledge of CRA requirements to maintain charitable status.
- Proficiency using SAGE Online
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to handle confidential information and maintain the highest ethical standards.
- Ability to communicate proactively with stakeholders at various levels across Canada.
- Strong ability to communicate complex financial topics to CEO and senior management.
- Strategic thinking and exceptional problem-solving skills to balance short term requirements with long term organizational goals.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
