School Counsellor

The School Counsellor works within the school community and as a part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide prevention, assessment, referral, clinical counselling and follow-up services to individuals and family members affected by mental health issues within the school community.

Reporting to the Principal, the School Counsellor provides counselling and support to students, individuals and families experiencing mental health issues. Specifically, the School Counsellor works at engaging ʔaq̓amnik School Community with culturally competent, inclusive and safe, services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide trauma informed, mental health counselling and support to students, caregivers, families and groups in the School Community.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of crisis management and the impact of trauma on mental health
- Provide outreach counselling in the School Community
- Prepare needs and risk assessments
- Focusing on intervention and prevention strategies that will support students, staff, caregivers and families in the school community.
- Familiar with mental health resources within the local community.

Salary will commensurate with experience from a range of ($72 - 103,000K) and includes a favorable benefits package and pension plan. Hours of work are generally Monday to Friday 8:30 - 4:30, 7 hours per day/35 hours per week.
