Reporting to the Associate Registrar, Financial Aid & Enrolment Services, the Financial Aid Advisor provides advising and direction to both Ontario residents and students from out of province to facilitate the receipt of financial resources necessary to achieve their educational goals. The Financial Aid Advisor determines student eligibility and processes funding through different financial assistance programs under the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) along Ontario Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities (MTCU) funded bursaries, Tuition Set Aside funding and Niagara College Foundation fund

**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:

- Provides advising and support to individual students and family members
- Facilitates problem solving strategies and ongoing support to various groups in a wide range of financial and personal situations
- Maintains detailed and current knowledge of OSAP policies and procedures
- Meets with students and creates action plans for students in complex and sensitive situations to implement student failed credit check and family breakdown appeals
- Administration and disbursement of donor and funded gifts as well as institutional and government scholarships and bursaries
- Implements targeted Financial Aid & OSAP related presentations, workshops and clinics through on campus sessions as well as at high school and community organizations

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum of a 2 year diploma in Office Administration, Business or similar field of study
- Minimum of 3 years experience in providing efficient client advisory and information services
- Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making capabilities assisting clients in difficult personal/financial situations
- Proven experience in an automated business office, preferably in an academic environment
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills in a high-volume setting
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and conflict management skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with an advanced level of word and excel
- Proven experience with other computerized data base systems such as PeopleSoft are considered an asset
- Presentation skills are considered an asset
