**COMMUNITY GARDENER**

This position will appeal to an individual passionate about horticulture, plant science, landscape design, community food rescue, organic gardening, composting and raised bed gardening.

Located at our Centre in Stony Plain is a 25 raised bed garden plus additional planters and garden areas through the grounds that require planting, weeding, tending and harvesting from mid May to mid September. Schedules are flexible. The majority of the work is Monday to Friday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm however, depending on the weather, there will be weekend hours to water and care for the gardens.

At this time, the produce harvested from our gardens is used as food rescue available for free to the community. It is also used in our Community Kitchen programs.

All materials and equipment required is supplied. Specific daily routines are weather dependent so flexibility is offered and required.

Duties

• This is a position that requires physical activity primarily standing and lifting.
• There is a requirement to shovel soil and gravel to fill in spots throughout the garden.
• Some minor repairs and painting to the fence and garden area may be required.
• Daily watering, tending, weeding and harvesting is required as the season progresses.

Applicants must be between 15 and 25 years of age at the start of employment

The hourly rate offered is based on the position and experience and will be between $17 and $20 per hour. 8 to 12 weeks of employment are available based on the applicant’s availability.
